Top rivals of the 2025 Nissan Patrol
The all-new 2025 Nissan Patrol was launched in the UAE on September 4, 2024. It is the replacement for the hugely successful previous-gen model, which was also known as the Y62. The new Y63 Patrol remains a body-on-frame SUV that seamlessly blends together mechanical ruggedness and premium comfort. It might be new, but the role of the 2025 Patrol remains unchanged.

The 2025 Nissan Patrol is the longest, widest & tallest amongst its rivals – it also boasts the longest wheelbase. Adding to its hugely intimidating presence are the top-spec 22-inch alloy wheels and a hefty 2.8-ton curb weight. The new Patrol’s sheer size allows for an extremely roomy cabin with seating for up to 8 occupants.
Its big size does make driving the Patrol through narrow lanes and gaps a bit tricky, albeit not entirely cumbersome. Maneuvering the Toyota Land Cruiser around dense city traffic is not easy but not as intimidating, either. The Land Cruiser’s wheelbase is shorter than the Patrol’s, but its bigger fuel tank and higher minimum cargo volume are more impressive.
The Dodge Durango is neither as big or spacious as the Patrol nor as rugged as the Land Cruiser. However, its brutish design looks sporty and its unibody construction feels more car-like to drive on the road. The Durango gets 7 seats, but its rear-most seats will be tight for adults. Its boot is also the least capacious.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee usually comes with 5 seats, which means its vast boot is easily the most spacious here. The Jeep is smaller than the rest of the SUVs here, but it certainly looks premium – both inside & outside. Like the Durango, the Grand Cherokee’s unibody construction makes it lighter and relatively more agile on the tarmac.

The 2025 Nissan Patrol can be equipped with adaptive air suspension with electrically-controlled shock absorbers. This should allow the new Patrol to conquer off-road tracks with relative ease while also riding better over paved surfaces. There are terrain modes like Sand, Mud, and Rock, along with 4H and 4L settings, and a rear-locking differential.
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is not as energetic as the Nissan Patrol and is more thirsty as well. This is due to the older engine in the base model, though even the twin-turbo version makes less power than its Patrol equivalent. The V10 Package gets a 2-inch lift kit for more ground clearance, while adaptive variable suspension is available.
The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets the “Quadra-Trac 2” four-wheel drive system with low-ratio gearing, height-adjustable air suspension, and electrically-controlled traction-management settings. It drives well on-road owing to its lighter weight and unibody construction. It performs decently over light off-road courses, better than the next car on our list.
The 2024 Dodge Durango with the HEMI V8 is a solid performance SUV, especially the SRT Hellcat. It sounds awesome and forward progress is frighteningly rapid for a car this size! The Durango SRT Hellcat is not meant to go off-roading and its fuel economy is abysmal. That said, its red “SRT” Brembo brake calipers look cool.

Conclusion
Not only is it the newest, but the 2025 Nissan Patrol packs a lot of goodies for the price. Its luxurious and spacious cabin, strong twin-turbo engine, and good performance make for a well-rounded SUV. The Land Cruiser is likely better off-road and offers slightly more conveniences to its second-row occupants.
If you want a premium cabin experience for five but with a massive boot at a lower price, there is the Grand Cherokee. It also drives better than either of the Japanese SUVs. The Durango SRT Hellcat is a dying breed, but one that will leave you giggling whenever you floor the accelerator.
