OMODA E5

An all-electric version of the Omoda 5 crossover, the new Omoda E5 is one of the new-generation electric vehicles from the Chinese auto giant Chery Automobiles. Globally, the Omoda E5 is available in a single variant with four colour choices – Khaki White, Dark Black, Aqua Green, and Phantom Grey, and it is this variant and colour choices that are expected to be offered in the UAE car market, once it goes on sale here soon. 

Based on the Omoda 5, the all-electric Omoda E5 has a well-contoured bonnet with a black strip across its width over the fascia. This black strip connects the LED DRLs placed on the sides, while there are boomerang-shaped LED headlamp clusters placed on the corners of the front bumper. Speaking about the front bumper, it has an X-themed design while housing a slim air dam right in the middle. 

From the side, the Omoda E5 looks sharp and bold, with its shoulder line having a sharp kink while flowing towards the rear windscreen. The window surrounds and rearview mirrors get satin silver inserts, with the Omoda E5 also having more chrome finish on the lower part of the door panels. Riding on 18-inch machined alloy wheels, the Omoda E5 has a steeply-raked windscreen, with the electric SUV having boomerang-shaped sleek LED tail lamps connected by an LED light bar. 

There are two different themes for the cabin of the Omoda E5 available globally – dual-tone black and blue and all-black, both of which are expected to be offered in the UAE-spec version too. The Omoda E5 has a wide and futuristic-looking 24.6-inch curved fully digital cockpit behind the multi-functional, flat-bottom steering wheel. Covering much of the dashboard, this huge screen incorporates twin 12.3-inch full-TFT screens for the instrument console and touchscreen infotainment system. 

The dashboard of the Omoda E5 has a textured design in its upper and lower layers, with the central layer having a sleek design while housing the slim AC vents. One can also experience the premium-looking faux wood finish on the dashboard and door pad inserts, which further liven up the luxury quotient of the E5. 

This modern and futuristic-looking cabin of the E5 is packed with a host of new-age features like dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, 64-coloured ambient lighting, a sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, 8-speaker Sony audio system, wireless charger, intelligent voice assist and front armrest with cooled compartment.

Globally, the Omoda E5 is available with a front-mounted 150kW electric motor, which generates 203 PS of maximum power and enables the SUV to have a top speed of 172 kmph and 0-100 kmph sprint time of 7.6 seconds. The 61kWh lithium-ion battery pack offered as standard in the Omoda E5 can deliver a maximum driving range of 430 km while requiring 30 minutes for a 30 to 80 percent charge level using an 80kW DC fast charger. 

Once launched, the new Omoda E5 will compete with similarly-sized and priced Chinese-born-electric SUVs in the UAE car market.
