McLaren reveals teaser image for its upcoming 720S Spider convertible
ABU DHABI: McLaren has been building up really well for its upcoming drop-top model, the 720S Spider. In fact, considering that it would be the fourth Spider from the company for the Middle Eastern market after the 570S Spider, 650S Spider and 675LT Spider, the anticipation is also on a high. Hence, keeping this excitement level high, McLaren has revealed a teaser image of the 720S Spider, albeit prior to its official debut on the 8th of December this year.
Though the teaser image does not reveal a lot of the design cues, it would be similar to the standard 720S. Moreover, it would be carrying forward the tradition of being a convertible with a hard top rather than a soft fabric top.
The added roof mechanism means that the McLaren 720S Spider will gain a considerable amount of weight, thereby getting the performance department to go down a bit. Yet, it still remains to be seen how things pan out to be once the rigid roof is removed off the carbon fibre Monocage II chassis.
Speaking about the mechanics, we can expect the upcoming McLaren 720S Spider to get the same engine as the coupe sibling, considering that the 570S and 570S Spider get the same powerplant. If so, the Middle Eastern spec model would be getting the turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine that could be capable of making a maximum power of 710 hp along with a peak torque of 770 Nm. The produced power would be sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual clutch transmission.
With such power, the standard 720S can zip through to the 100 kmph mark from a standstill in just 2.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 341 kmph. However, the Spider form, with added weight on the roof mechanism, might face a slight downslide on the performance.
Apart from these, the official details will be available once the car is unveiled next month.
