ABU DHABI: The German automaker BMW has revealed details about its upcoming fully-electric i5 and all-new 5 series. BMW has also shared some performance specs and features that customers can expect in the i5 sedan.

The all-new BMW 5 Series is equipped with top-notch safety features like the Highway Assistant system, an important part of the brand’s Driving Assistant Professional Plus kit.The BMW 5 Series has held the reputation for being a high-volume car for decades, bringing in revenue for developing future products. The battery-powered 5 Series will be offered in two guises. The first model is the M60 xDrive, and the second one is the eDrive40. M60 xDrive has a dual-motor setup giving it 590hp and all-wheel drive. The eDrive40 uses a single electric motor and sends around 335hp to the rear wheels.
While BMW Adaptive Suspension Professional Plus will be an optional feature in the i5 eDrive 40, it will come as standard fitment in the i5 M60 xDrive. The same suspension will be outfitted in the new BMW 5 Series PHEV and ICE versions as an optional or standard item.
The i5 also gets rear steering, active sway bars, variable-ratio steering rack, and multi-link suspension with rear air springs. It is also equipped with top-notch safety features like the Highway Assistant system, an important part of the brand’s Driving Assistant Professional Plus kit. Some of the other additions include an eye-activated lane-changing system and an interior camera monitoring drive alertness.
As per the German automaker, the all-new BMW 5 Series will be available in an internal combustion engine, a fully-electric i5 unit, and a plug-in hybrid. The company will unveil the i5 touring EV in 2024.
The manufacturing of the all-new BMW 5 Series will begin at the Dingolfing plant in Bavaria in the summer of 2023.
