NIO ET5 Overview

Chinese automobile manufacturers are increasingly upping their stakes in a number of continents including Europe. The ET5 is beautifully styled and is expected to expand Nios’ footprint in most markets. That aside, Nios has introduced the Touring model to the ET5’s European lineup. The 2025 Nios ET5 gets a long roofline that forges a shooting brake-type look. The car is powered by a liquid-cooled 100kW lithium-ion battery with a claimed mileage of 560km. The cabin gets Nappa leather upholstery. The 2025 Nios ET5 is packed with driver-assist features.

NIO ET5 Expert Review

The first-ever all-electric sedan from the Chinese carmaker Nio, the ET5 is a coupe-styled four-door born-electric midsize sedan that was globally introduced in 2022. The sedan was first launched in China and gradually in other Asian and European countries, with the UAE market getting this car sometime in the beginning of 2024 in a single variant.

Globally, the Nio ET5 is available in colour choices like Cloud White, Satr Grey, Deep Black, Mars Red, Stratosphere Blue, and First Light Kiss, all of which might be offered in the UAE as well. Like the larger EC6 crossover, the Nio ET5 also has a minimalist front fascia with double dash LED DRLs above and vertically aligned LED projector headlamps with gloss black surrounds below them. The lower half of the front fascia also has an X-themed design with the trapezoidal air dam covering the lower central part of the bumper.

The coupe-like design of the Nio ET5 is evident in its sloping roofline, with the sedan also getting roof-mounted radar sensors above the windscreen and cameras placed on the sides of the front fender. This electric sedan also has satin chrome highlights around the window panels and rearview mirrors, along with flush-type door handles and 18-inch machined alloy wheels. The rear profile of the ET5 has a streamlined roofline flowing down towards the ducktail spoiler, while also having split LED combination tail lamps and an ‘illumiblade’ LED connected light bar.

The interior of the Nio ET5 is available with six different earth-inspired colour themes, including Vetiver, Terracotta, Skyline Violet, Onyx Black, Cool Gray, and Sand, with the seats, steering wheel, lower half of the dashboard, centre console, and door pads finished in the same colour theme. Finished in high-tech sustainable fabric made of recycled plastics and elements, the cabin of the Nio ET5 has modern full-TFT screens for the instrument console and a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Much of the features of the Nio ET5 have been retained from the Nio EC6 crossover, including tech-based features like NOMI in-car voice-operated AI companion talking robot, a 9.3-inch coloured head-up display, and a 6.6-inch rear HDR control display. For comfort and convenience, the ET5 also has electrically adjustable front seats, ventilation, heating, and massage functions for the front and rear seats, 256-colour waterfall ambient lighting, and a 23-speaker audio system with Dolby Atmos surround sound.

The entire powertrain setup of the Nio ET5 has also been shared with the EC6 crossover, comprising a front-mounted 150kW motor and a rear-mounted 210kW motor that combine to deliver 480 bhp and 700 Nm. The Nio ET5 takes 4 seconds to reach the 100 kmph mark from a standstill. This electric sedan also shares its 100kWh battery pack with the EC6, which claims a maximum driving range of 590 km (NEDC-certified).

The Nio ET5 is positioned as a sporty-to-drive electric sedan, with it having a sport-tuned five-link front and rear suspension, performance brakes with 4-piston callipers, an intelligent chassis controller, and a continuous damping controller. It also has up to nine driving modes for varying driving experiences on varying terrains and speeds – Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Custom, Sand, Snow, Wet, and Trailer.
