2019 Nissan Altima - Top 5 features
One of the most capable and exhilarating midsize sedans in the segment, the 2019 Nissan Altima, has proven to be a formidable opponent to every other offering in the price bracket. This car also happens to be one of our top picks in the category thanks to its competitive price tag, world-renowned Japanese reliability, and state of the art technology.
So for the outgoing Nissan Altima model, we decided to list out our top five picks of the sedan’s feature highlights.
1. NissanConnect and Other Infotainments equipment
The 2019 Nissan Altima specs sheet comes equipped with NissanConnect technology, which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard across all variants. The company also offers the option of pairing the touchscreen infotainment unit with an optional Bose premium audio system that features a nine-speaker unit and a digital amplifier that offers eight custom equalization channels.
2. Nissan Safety Shield 360
The 2019 Nissan Altima was designed to have a competitive edge over its rivals in the segment, and one of the most prominent factors adding to the sedan’s competitive advantage was the Nissan Safety Shield 360 program. The Safety Shield 360 is a group of features that includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, rear braking, and rear door alert, lane departure warning, radar-based blind-spot warning, and high beam assist. This safety feature collection makes the 2019 Nissan Altima one safest cars on the road today and bestows occupants with ultimate peace of mind.
3. Radical design
Even though the 2019 model was designed with a focus on equipping the popular sedan with the best in class technology and safety features, Nissan did manage to make the outgoing Altima model much more aggressive and radical in design. The new Nissan Altima is longer, wider, and even lower than its predecessor and manages to offer a very well-proportioned silhouette to the car. The optional 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels also enhance the sedan’s appeal and bestow it with the premium and upscale feel. The front-end of 2019 Nissan Altima has been redesigned to feature a much lower hood and cowl components that complement the gliding wing instrument panel inside the cabin that assists in enhancing the comfortable, open, and airy feel of the interior.
Speaking of comfort, the 2019 Nissan Altima also comes equipped with an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat as standard, which also gets additional bolstering to offer better ergonomics and support. Subjective as it may be, we feel that Nissan Altima is one of the most futuristic and attractive looking offerings in the segment, especially considering its standard dual-tip exhausts. Unlike its European rivals, the Altima is unapologetic and does not embody a conservative and traditional design language.
4. Powertrain options
The 2019 Altima is available in 6 variants and two engine options. The powerplant options include a 2.5-liter, direct injection, 16-valve, 4-cylinder petrol engine, and a 2 liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged motor. The 2,488cc unit manages to churn out 188 bhp of power and 244 Nm of peak torque. The more powerful turbocharged 2-liter unit produces 248 bhp of power and 380 Nm of peak torque. Both engine options come mated to Nissan’s latest version of its continuously variable automatic transmission, which feels quite refined.
Equipped with the standard 2.5-liter DOHC unit, the 2019 Nissan Altima accelerates to a 100 km/h mark from a standstill in under 8 seconds, and the more powerful 2.0-liter variant manages to make the same run in under 5.9 seconds which considering the sedan’s dimensions is quite impressive.
5. Nissan Intelligent Mobility
The Japanese carmaker defines Nissan Intelligent Mobility as the idea of being on the move with technology that makes you feel more connected, confident, and excited. To make the vision a reality, Nissan coupled its Safety Shield 360 program with other DynamicDrive technologies like an Intelligent around View Monitor with moving object detection that relays a 360 bird’s eye view of the sedan’s surroundings to Altima’s infotainment display. The driver also has the option of selecting between front, rear, and curbside views.
This feature also automatically detects any object moving in close vicinity of the vehicle and displays an instant onscreen alert notifying the driver to proceed with caution. Speaking of notifications and caution, the car also comes equipped with a Nissan Driver Alertness monitor that detects if the driver is getting sleepy by constantly monitoring his/her steering patterns and if so, the system suggests the driver takes a break by displaying a coffee cup icon on the instrument screen.
Final word
With prices starting at AED 94,900 and going all the way up to AED 127,500, across a 6-variant lineup, the 2019 Nissan Altima manages to offer an attractive alternative to your conventional European midsize sedans and is a respectable and quirky substitute to the segment-favourite Honda Accord.
