Toyota unveils 2024 Land Cruiser Prado; gets boxier design and hybrid power

ABU DHABI: The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser coming back to the US, European and Japanese markets sees the rugged SUV shift downmarket, showcasing a diverse model lineup. The SUV has been named the Land Cruiser Prado in some countries (including UAE) and Land Cruiser 250 in Japan.

The 2024 Land Cruiser, in line with the J300 model, is underpinned by the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform of Toyota. But it will be significantly smaller in dimensions aligning itself with the new Lexus GX. The SUV has undergone enhancements in terms of its suspension. It now features a multi-link setup with coil springs at the rear and double wishbones with twin-tube shocks at the front.

Its design is different from the last Land Cruiser. The upright stance and squared-off body give it a timeless off-roader look. Toyota has made the new model 1.2 inches shorter and 4.4 inches narrower overall to improve its off-roading ability.

The key exterior highlights include:

• Black body cladding
• Roof rails
• Square-themed mesh on front intakes
• 18-inch wheels shod with all-season tyres
• Large side mirrors
• Side steps

The cabin comes with exciting upgrades, including:

• Satellite navigation 
• New 12.3-inch instrument display
• New 12.3-inch infotainment system
• Android Auto and Wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity 

• Toyota Safety Sense, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane centering assist, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition.
• Leather upholstery with power adjustment, heating, and ventilation functions
• Redesigned off-road controls and gear selector 

The new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will be available in different markets in diesel, petrol, and hybrid powertrain. 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid iForce Max powertrain will power 2024 Land Cruisers. The mill is paired with an eight-speed transmission that harnesses the power from a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack.

Toyota has definitely raised the bar with the 2024 Land Cruiser Prado, and we can't wait to get our hands on it.
