Peugeot unveils the 508 Sport Engineered Concept ahead of Geneva
ABU DHABI: The latest entrant to join the electrification race is the French carmaker Peugeot. The company is all set to unveil the high-performance 508 Sport Engineered Concept in a few weeks at Geneva. This launch sets the pace for Peugeot which will see every car getting electrified henceforth.
Getting into the details, this super sedan is powered by an advanced PureTech 200 engine assisted by two electric motors. The electric motor at the front makes 112 bhp and the one at the rear produces 203 bhp. Unfortunately, Peugeot did not mention the combined power output, they did claim a 0-100 kmph time of 4.3 seconds. Under the floor is an 11.8 kWh battery which is good for an all-electric range of 50 km. In hybrid mode, the car emits 49 gm of CO2 per km.
Exterior design elements have also been tweaked, featuring a redesigned bumper with a 3D-printed valance that’s designed to guide air into the radiator and new rear diffuser. Aerodynamics have also been improved with new flaps on the subframe that help reduce drag. There are also winglets on the quarter panels which further assist to smoothen the air flow. Apart from this, other changes to the exterior include carbon-fibre door mirrors, redesigned aggressive front grille, anodised Lion badge of Peugeot, and special Selenium Grey paint that changes under different lighting conditions.
On the inside of this Peugeot, leather and Alcantara are extensively used. It is present on the new ‘comfort fit’ seats, asymmetrical steering wheel, roof lining, and the A-pillars/quarter panels. To add some contrast to the interiors, Peugeot has used Kryptonite and Onyx Black overstitching. This contrast theme is also carried forward to the 12.3-inch fully –digital instrument panel while the centre 10-inch screen is 'all Kryptonite'.
As mentioned, the 508 Sport Engineered Concept ushers in a new era for Peugeot. Groupe PSA aims to electrify each model for all of its five brands by 2025. This electrification will also involve cars based on the Common Modular Platform (CPM) and Efficient Model Platform (EMP2). The Peugeot 508 is based on the EMP2 platform.
