Discover the production-ready EV crossover from Nissan
Nissan showcases its first electric crossover concept, the Nissan Ariya, that actually looks ready to undergo production. Quite similar to the IMx concept that Nissan showcased a few years ago, having cues from the Leaf and the X-Trail. The Ariya doesn’t sport exaggerated designs, something that caught our attention because usually, concepts are an amplified version of a production-ready car. This means that it might actually be the production-ready version.
On the outside, the Ariya concept looks clean with very less to take out considering it’s a concept. While the wheels do not embrace a low profile, the concept actually has the side mirrors attached. You do not usually see side mirrors on concept cars, certainly another indication of it being a road-ready crossover.
The Nissan Ariya is 4.6-metre long, which makes it equal the length of the X-Trail. What this means is that after production, it will be the first all-electric car in the C-segment crossover class. Currently, all the cars in this segment are either hybrid, plug-in hybrid or diesel.
Powertrain options have not been announced yet, however, Nissan mentioned that it will come with a dual-motor mechanism with an AWD system. The Ariya shares the drive tech with the brand’s flagship model, GT-R which makes it even more exciting.
Nissan designers seem to have followed the minimalism theory while designing the cabin. It looks clean, simple yet stylish. Both the instrument cluster and infotainment system have been integrated into a single layout, making the dash look wider and more advanced. The physical buttons have made way for haptic touches on the centre console.
As far as technology on the Ariya concept is concerned, the company has blessed it with Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility system that brings ProPilot Remote Parking into the picture. It is an autonomous driving capability through which the car automatically finds a parking spot without you wasting time for a space to get free. The smartphone connectivity has been taken to an altogether new level by Nissan allowing you to personalize the crossover based on profiles and other details through your mobile device.
We do not expect all the technologies discussed-above to make it to the production-ready version as the company is said to be still working on them to make them a reality. So, if the Ariya concept enters production next year then the probability of it getting loaded with all the tech stuff is highly bleak.
