New Peugeot 508 officially unveiled - Looks no less than a charmer!
ABU DHABI: Big thanks to the upcoming Geneva International Auto Show for motivating automakers around the globe to create and bring their best at the March scheduled event. In the said list of motivated automakers is also present the French guy - Peugeot. The brand has already announced its plans to unveil the all-new 508 at Geneva, and now a few days before the debut, it has officially given away the innermost details of the redesigned D-segment car.
Termed as ‘the radical saloon’, the updated 508 accommodates excellent design, mill, performance, and interior transformation. We are sure that auto critics and prospective customers will be more than happy to experience the fresh air of hope Peugeot has brought to the now boring D-segment sedan bay.
Speaking of the vision behind its new car, Jean Philippe Imparato, CEO Peugeot, said, “Following the success of our latest major launches and our SUV offensive with 2008, 3008 and 5008, we needed a vision for the large Peugeot saloon that would continue to shake up the market with a vehicle that rivals the best. And in D-segment cars, we’re competing with the world’s greatest automakers. More than ever, the new 508 embodies the ambition we’ve been starting for several years already – to make Peugeot the top high-end generalist automotive brand,”
First things first, Peugeot 508 new design language is inspired by the Instinct and Exalt concepts, which the French automaker showed at the last year Geneva Motor Show. Dropping the conventional theme, the 2018 Peugeot 508 carries an aggressive front fascia complemented with features like sleek LED headlamps, new chequerboard motif chrome grille along with a unique vertical LED DRLs going all the way to the bumper edge. Sliding to the side profile, 508 now gets new frameless doors with full elimination of roof aerial. The rear is no less of a beauty and features a striking pair of 3D LED tail lamps joined by a glossy black stripe on which rests brands signature claw motif.
In addition to the upgraded exterior beauty, the new 508 has revised the dimension spec only for good. The new 508 is lower and shorter than before, thus benefiting the performance spec for sure. There’s also a new EMP2 platform that works towards 508 weight reduction with complimenting advantages like fuel efficiency and safety.
Inside the cabin, the all-new 508 has borrowed the concept-driven Peugeot i-Cockpit that includes futuristic additions like 10-inch capacitive touchscreen, compact steering wheel, and 12.3-inch head-up digital instrument panel. Its advanced set of features also included new Night Vision mode that uses an infrared camera to detect objects/beings during late hours within the range of 200-250 meter.
Working on improving cabin comfort and helping set the perfect ambience is present the new i-Cockpit Amplify system. It gives occupants choice to customize the inner ambience between Boost and Relax mode.
Peugeot has tuned the new 508 with a total of six engine options - two petrol and four diesel. We are expecting the mill profile to carry displacements figures like 1.6-, 1.5-, and 2.0-liter. What, however, we are sure about is the presence of an EAT8 eight-speed automatic transmission and auto start-stop system featuring across all variants. Also, shortly we can expect to see a plug-in hybrid drivetrain most probably in petrol to join the batch.
That’s how the new 508 looks on paper, we are eagerly waiting for the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show to see it in person and enjoy this French beauty better.
