Koenigsegg Regera sets new world record; reaches 0-400-0 kmph in 31.49 sec
The supercar manufacturers try to make new records of speed or acceleration from time to time and keep up the pre-set targets at some attempts.
The Swedish supercar company Koenigsegg has come up with a new world record of 0-400-0 kmph when a Koenigsegg Regera covered the run in just 31.49 seconds. This is 1.8 seconds faster than the previous unbeaten record of Koenigsegg.
The record happened at Rada military airfield deep in the forests of Sweden when the vehicle was piloted by Koenigsegg driver Sonny Persson. The total 31,49 seconds comprises of 22.87 seconds in reaching 400kmph and 8.62 seconds in coming to a complete stop.
Christian von Koenigsegg, the founder of the company quoted that the model could have made the record in fewer seconds if the testing location had a more level surface. The bumps available on the road prevented the driver to achieve the predetermined target of hitting 400km/h in 20 seconds.
The testing model was a production one, which was only equipped with a roll cage and a four-point harness for safety. Two years ago, the previous record was set by the Koenigsegg Agera RS which completed the run in 33.29 seconds.
The Ragera engine is based on Koenigsegg’s Direct Drive technology, consisting of a single-speed, fixed-gear transmission as compared to Agera’s seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
It is backed by a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 same as the Agera RS, though enhanced with three electric motors which produce the combined output of 1522 PS and 2000 Nm.
Currently, the record of the highest top speed of any production car is held by Agera R with 447.19 kmph. A few months back, a pre-production Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ reported the top speed of 490.48 km/ph, though it was not an official record as it does not cover all the terms of setting a record.
