Dubai imposes traffic fines of up to AED 100,000
ABU DHABI: Dubai has amended its vehicle impounding system to ensure safe roads for everyone. The new traffic laws came into effect on July 6 2023, penalising people for serious violations on the road.

As part of these amendments, you may have to pay hefty penalties, with fines reaching AED 100,000 for certain offences. Motorists are advised to abide by these amended laws and exercise caution while driving.
Let’s take a look at a few of these fines:
- Vehicles involved in recreational riding and road races without prior permission on paved roads will be subject to impounding. Those involved in the offence may have to pay a fine of AED 100,000 to get their vehicle out of the impound
- Heavy-duty Non-Emirati truck drivers who jump red lights will have to pay a fine of AED 50,000
- Driving the vehicle recklessly on the road, damaging police vehicles, and driving a car under the age of 18 or without a driving licence would make you pay AED 50,000 fine
- Escaping the Dubai Police, driving a car without a number plate, and applying windshield or window tinting beyond the allowed percentage would make you pay a hefty AED 10,000 fine to get your car out of impound.
The Dubai Police can also seize vehicles modified to produce excessive noise or increase speed limits while driving. The impounded vehicles can be released after rectifying violations and paying all fines.
A daily fee of AED50 will be imposed in case of failure to claim an impounded vehicle after the impounding period. If the same offence is committed within one year, the impounding period will be doubled.
