BMW officially reveals G20 3 Series
ABU DHABI: The BMW 3 Series has been around for a very long period, having a tenure of 43 years spanning over six generations. Hence, this makes the entry of the new seventh-generation model highly anticipated. Keeping a tab at what is awaited, the company has revealed the new G20 3 Series officially.
Starting from the dimensions itself, the G20 is much bigger than its predecessor, the F30. The front section has the signature double-kidney grille which now sees the headlamps flow into it. Adaptive LED headlamps are also available as an option with the Laserlight technology.
Inside the cabin, this new G20 BMW 3 Series has been built taking cues from the G15 8 Series, G29 Z4, and the G05 X5. There are electroplated trims of silver around the AC vents and the controller area. The extension of the dashboard to centre armrest has a newly designed gear lever, starter button, electronic parking brakes, and the iDrive controller.
Apart from these, there is an 8.8-inch touchscreen display on the dash. However, the Live Cockpit Professional option has a 10.25-inch display at the centre and a bigger 12.3-inch unit in the cockpit area. There is the new revised BMW Operating System added to the system.
At the time of the launch, this new generation G20 BMW 3 Series will be having both petrol and diesel engine options, while the latter will even come with a six-cylinder mill. Both the 320i and 330i will be using the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, but with different tunings. In the 320i, it makes 184 PS and 300 Nm of torque, while in the 330i, the same engine churns out 258 PS and 400 Nm of torque.
Besides the petrol, the twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel engine makes 150 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque in the 318d and 190 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque in the 320d. However, the six-cylinder variant makes 265 PS of power and 580 Nm of torque.
As for the transmission, only the two 2.0-litre diesel variants will be getting the six-speed manual whereas, all the other trims will have the 8-speed automatic unit. Plus, many other powertrains are joining the lineup next year, including a 330e plug-in hybrid.
