All-new Nissan Sentra might do away with its manual gearbox
ABU DHABI: Earlier this year, Nissan unveiled the next-generation Nissan Sylphy, which is nothing but the Chinese avatar of the automaker's sedan Sentra. And now, reports and speculations have started floating over the internet that the all-new Sentra will come out of the production facilities very soon.
While a camouflaged Sentra with a manual gearbox was spotted back in August, latest reports suggest that the next-generation Sentra for the US market won't sport a manual stick anymore.
Furthermore, the sedan is also said to feature a solitary powertrain in the form of a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder internal combustion engine instead of the current 1.8-litre naturally-aspirated mill. Having a look at the power figures, the 1.8-litre naturally-aspirated motor generates 124 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 169 Nm.
The new 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated powerhouse, on the other hand, will make 149 hp of maximum power and 196 Nm of peak torque. Since there would be no manual gearbox, a continuously variable transmission will handle the power delivery duties.
While the reports and rumours are suggesting for the all-new Nissan Sentra to feature a single powertrain option, the Japanese automaker might just add more powertrains and gearboxes to the lineup later on.
Anyway, moving on from the powertrain dilemma, the next-generation Nissan Sentra will also boast the Nissan Safety Shield 360 and a multilink rear suspension setup instead of the current torsion beam unit.
The automaker's high-end safety suite will be standard across the lineup irrespective of other features and optional packages. We hope for Nissan to pull the wraps off the all-new Sentra at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.
