Maxus D60 Interior & Features
The 2024 Maxus D60 arguably has the best cabin in the Maxus range. All models get leather seats and upholstery. High-touch surfaces like power window controls, the central console, and the dashboard get a piano black accent. While it adds class to the cabin, the surfaces tend to accumulate scratches over time. The dashboard itself has a modern-looking layout and comes with an integrated 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit connected to six speakers. There's a climate control panel below the infotainment unit. Some hard plastics have been thoughtfully used in the cabin to increase durability. The flat-bottom, multifunction steering wheel controls most of the functions. The cargo room is pretty good at 500 liters with the third row down. The doors are wide and allow easy entry and exit. The instrument panel is ana-digital. The physical knobs are conveniently placed on the central console and are easy to operate.
D60 Exterior
The 2024 Maxus D60 does look unique in part. It’s not exactly a copy-paste model of any successful car already on the market. Chinese carmakers often copy or mix-n-match an existing car's design to reduce production costs. SAIC has done the latter for Maxus D60. But the SUV still has a striking appearance. The headlights look futuristic but similar to some Korean cars. A large octagonal grille with a unique pattern dominates the front. Maxus calls it the 'Cobweb Grille'. A matte black trim runs around the lower part of the car, and the wheel arches. At the back, the taillamp sports an attractive crystal-like texture. The LED daytime running lights (DRLs) in the front look sharp. The slim LED taillights are connected by a lightbar. The twin-exhaust system lends the 2024 Maxus D60 a sporty look. But the trunk release button's placement is somewhat weird. It's located on the rear wiper arm and not on the cutout at the bottom of the door. The car runs on 17-inch alloy wheels.
Maxus D60 Ride & Handling
The cabin of the 2024 Maxus D60 is spacious. The seats are nicely padded and have good back support. The driver's seat gets a manual adjustment. The two front seats get the maximum legroom and headroom. The second row can comfortably accommodate three adults. The rear air-conditioning vents cools the cabin faster. The second row comes with a sliding and reclining function. It's positioned a bit low, and thigh support is lacking. The third row, like in most SUVs, is rather crammed and not suited for adults. The suspension is on the stiffer side but absorbs most potholes and bumps. But there are some creaking noises in the cabin.
D60 Engine & Fuel Consumption
The 2024 Maxus D60 Elite is hauled by a turbocharged, four-cylinder, 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 167 PS/250 Nm. The motor is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch. The engine delivers sensible power when the SUV is driven around the city. The steering is light and responsive. The throttle response is just perfect when the car is driven at a relaxed pace. The Maxus D60 doesn't allow much of a spirited drive because the power delivery is a bit delayed.
Maxus D60 Braking & Safety
The 2024 Maxus D60 comes with a reverse parking camera with dynamic guidelines. The images could be clearer at noontime. The car gets reverse parking sensors, child seat anchors, electronic parking brake, dual front and side airbags, along with other standard safety equipment.
D60 Verdict
The 2024 Maxus D60 is an affordable SUV compared to most other Japanese and European rivals. Its strong points are design, handling, engine, comfort, and safety. The build quality is also strong. It's a worthy car for those who want a comfortable and practical SUV.
