Maxus G50 Expert Review
Abhishek Katariya says
The multipurpose vehicle (MPV) segment in all major car markets is burgeoning. Customers have a number of options to choose from, whether seven-seater or eight-seater vehicles. The Maxus G50 had its global debut in 2019 and is the second MPV from the China-owned brand after the larger G10. The car is currently available in three versions in the Emirates market. The MPV was last updated in 2021.

Maxus G50 Interior & Features
The cabin of the 2024 Maxus G50 is simple but elegant. There's a playful vibe to the entire cabin that gets a good amount of soft-touch materials. Hard plastics are scattered throughout the cabin but that doesn't impact the overall fit and finish. The grey and black overtones look business-like. The vehicle's floor is quite low making ingress and egress convenient. Optional sporty design bits include a flat-bottom, nice-feel steering wheel with red accents and contrast stitching on various parts of the cabin. The entry-level model gets a proprietary radio system which is a bit of a downer. It doesn't even have auxiliary input. The higher trims get a 12.3-inch infotainment system paired with a six-speaker audio setup. The climate control buttons are neatly placed under the front air vents and are easy to operate. The instrument cluster is still analog. Overall, the cabin is functional.
G50 Exterior
The 2024 Maxus G50 is among the best-looking MPVs in the Emirates market. The huge two-part grille and the aggressive headlights give off a muscular vibe. The dimensions are somewhat van-like. Its looks are accentuated by its short nose and boxy proportions. The higher models get LED headlights whereas the entry-level trim gets halogen projector headlamps. The two-stack grille is adorned by silver Maxus lettering. Both sides of the 2024 Maxus G50 get clean lines. The window under the A-pillar is small but greatly aids visibility. While most cars would look laughable in purple, it's just the opposite for the Maxus G50. The car runs on stylish 17-inch alloy wheels. The rear and rear-quarter are pretty much the same across all versions and show the van-like styling. The MPV gets all-round LED lighting, including the indicators and rear fog lights. The reverse light is still halogen. The C-pillar is a bit discrete. The car has a commanding road presence and is a head-turner.
Maxus G50 Ride & Handling
The cabin of the 2024 Maxus G50 is spacious because of its boxy shape. The entry-level model doesn't get powered seats but are still comfortable. The seat cushioning is great and offers nice support. The bolstering is good and lends the passenger enough flexibility to remain comfortable all the time. There's enough headroom and legroom on the bench-type second row that can slide forward to create more room for the third-row occupants. The 2024 Maxus G50 is theoretically an eight-seater. The last row is only suitable for small children. The suspension leaves a lot to be desired. Almost all bumps were felt inside the cabin. The front suspension even makes an unnerving squeaking sound while passing over humps at low speed.
G50 Engine & Fuel Consumption
The 2024 Maxus G50 is hauled by a turbocharged, four-cylinder, 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 167 PS/250 Nm. The motor is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch. The transmission is a bit delayed, though it isn't jerky. The steering wheel is on the lighter side but the big MPV sometimes feels intimidating to handle. The torque sets in at the lower rev range. The car still manages to turn sharp corners without much fuss.
Maxus G50 Braking & Safety
The entry-level model of the 2024 Maxus G50 comes with pretty basic equipment like reverse sensors, multiple airbags, child-seat anchors, and an electronic stabilization program. The higher models get a 360-degree camera that greatly aids in parking and removing blind spots. It's still a decently equipped car.
G50 Verdict
The 2024 Maxus G50 is available in the Classic and Elite versions in the Emirates. It doesn't have the fancy tech like its Japanese and European peers. But it's a very functional and practical MPV that's worth its price tag.
