Mitsubishi Pajero - Things we like
Mitsubishi Pajero is one of the most popular SUVs in the United Arab Emirates, a country that has a soft corner for its trucks. One of the leading factors contributing to the SUV’s popularity is its price point. Mitsubishi Pajero price starts from AED 96,900, going all the way up to AED 130,000 across the SUV's 6 variant lineup.
The outgoing model of Mitsubishi Pajero is also available as a full-size SUV which seats up to 7 people. At the 2019 Dubai Motor Show, the Japanese carmaker introduced a black edition package in which the entire SUV including its alloy wheels get a blacked-out paint scheme.
The Mitsubishi Pajero offers unparalleled off-roading skills for the segment and continues to carry on rugged old school aesthetics. This design was first introduced back in 2013 when Mitsubishi completely redesigned the Pajero. The car is available with 2 powertrain options which include a 3-liter unit producing 177 bhp of maximum power and 259 Nm of torque and 3.8-liter unit producing 241 bhp of maximum power and 327 Nm of torque. Both the engine options come mated to an automatic transmission and offered with an all-wheel-drive setup. The 2020 Pajero is available in both 5 door and 3 door body types which makes it one of the most versatile SUVs in its segment. So let's take a look at the top 5 things we like about Mitsubishi Pajero.
Style and functionality
Even though Mitsubishi Pajero received its redesign back in 2013 the Japanese carmaker offered a timeless and classic design with its popular SUV. At the front, we find large headlight clusters that encase projector lamps that illuminate the road well especially when working in tandem with the fog lamps located underneath. At the rear, we find an inbuilt spare wheel case which not only looks good but also offers functionality by houses the reversing camera. All Mitsubishi Pajeros also comes with roof rails as standard which enhances the car’s practicality.
Third-row seats
The outgoing model of Mitsubishi Pajero is available as both a compact SUV and a full-size truck that can seat up to 7 people. Mitsubishi has designed the cabin of Pajero ingeniously, to make it one of the most versatile interiors in the segment. The third-row seats are hidden away in the floor plan of the SUV so to allow customers to utilize maximum cargo space when the third-row seats are not in use. When the need arises, all the occupants have to do is, remove a cover on the floor of the SUV and simply pull on the seats which have been stowed away into the car’s floor plan.
Boot space
As implied by the stowaway third-row seats Mitsubishi was focusing on maximizing the payload space while designing the Pajero. The outgoing model of Mitsubishi Pajero offers up to 1081 liters of cargo capacity in its five-door variant whereas the boot space drops down to 500 liters in case of the 3 door version. Second-row seats in Mitsubishi Pajero come with a foldaway feature which also helps in enhancing the cargo space when additional room is required.
Creature comforts
When it comes to convenience Mitsubishi Pajero makes for a formidable contender. The Japanese SUV is over 7 years old and the carmaker has equipped it with some of the latest features and creature comforts available in the segment. For example, the Mitsubishi Pajero specs sheet features a wireless charging pad and sunroof. The infotainment system on the 2020 Mitsubishi Pajero might seem a little dated but it is very well positioned. At the top, we find a digital multi-information display that comes equipped with a digital compass and displays the outside temperature and other information such as range, average speed, and elevation. Pajero also comes equipped with a touchscreen infotainment unit that sits right under this display and can also be equipped with Apple CarPlay. The input infotainment unit is quite responsive but not very intuitive and the graphics seem a tad dated. Other connectivity options include Bluetooth.
Off-road capability
Mitsubishi Pajero comes equipped with an all-wheel-drive setup. Even though the powertrain features an automatic gearbox, Mitsubishi has equipped the 2020 Pajero with a dedicated low range transmission that comes equipped with a differential lock. Even with the all-wheel-drive system and off-road suspension, Mitsubishi Pajero manages to offer a very comfortable ride on the freeways and city limits. Pajero also comes equipped with a cruise control feature which makes it ideal for long road trips and highway driving.
Conclusion
The design of the interior might seem a tad dated as compared to other offerings in the segment but the exterior styling of the 2020 Mitsubishi Pajero still looks quite attractive even though it is a seven-year-old design. Mitsubishi offers its popular SUV in both 3 door and 5 door variants across the model’s six variant lineup which means there is a variant available for every budget out there. The car has been updated to include some of the latest creature comforts and for this price, the 2020 Pajero makes for a very capable SUV.
