KEY TAKEAWAYS
Is the Ford Expedition Stealth worth the price?
The Ford Expedition Stealth edition is almost as feature-loaded as the top trim while having the most powerful engine. Pair that with the attractive Ebony black additions to the body and you get the most attractive and value-for-money variant in the Expedition lineup. What engine is used in the Stealth edition of the Ford Expedition?
The Ford Expedition Stealth is powered by the same engine as the other variants. However, the engine tuning is different, resulting in the highest power production. The Ford Expedition is powerful and impressive in its performance in the segment, thanks to the engine and the 4x4 drivetrain. The SUV is available in six variants, namely XL, XLT, Timberline, Limited, Stealth, and Platinum. The prices for the SUV start from AED 270,795 for the baseline XLT variant and continue up to AED 344,295 for the top-of-the-line Platinum model. The Stealth edition falls in between the trim levels (and over the Timberline variants) and is priced at AED 333,795.
Here, we are going to talk about the difference between the regular Ford Expedition variants against the new Stealth Performance edition.
High-output engine
The Ford Expedition is a powerful all-terrain SUV, and there is no doubt about that. However, the New Stealth edition packs a stronger engine than other variants. While the engine capacity is the same across the trim levels, the tuning is different to produce different power figures.
The XL, XLT, and Limited trims produce a maximum power of 380 hp and 637 Nm of max torque from its 3.5-liter Twin-Turbo EcoBoost engine. On the other hand, the Platinum variants make 400 hp of max power while churning out 651 Nm of peak torque.
That said, the most powerful engine tuning is given in the Stealth and Timberline variants, though the engine capacity is the same. The engine produces 440 hp power and a peak torque of 691 Nm. So, the Stealth variant is powered by the highest-tuned engine.
Sporty mechanism
Apart from the engine, mechanical additions in the Stealth variant of the new Ford Expedition change how the SUV drives. First up, only the Stealth and Timberline trim levels get a dual exhaust system. The Stealth also gets a sports-tuned suspension that is missing in all other variants.
The SUV also gets a CCD (continuously controlled damping) feature given as optional in the Stealth and Limited, while Platinum gets it as standard. Interestingly, the XL, XLT, and Timberline trims do not get this feature, even as an option.
Rear-wheel drive
The Ford Expedition Stealth is essentially a rear-wheel-drive variant of the SUV. The RWD is given as standard in all the trims except the Timberline. The drivetrain also includes five selectable drive modes. However, the buyers will have the option to upgrade the drivetrain to 4x4 as an optional feature, something that is given as standard in the Timberline.
The 4x4 package will also include Control Trac, electronically limited slip differential, terrain management system, hill descent control, skid plates, and seven selectable drive modes.
Entertainment in the cabin
The connectivity and entertainment department of the Ford Expedition has some pretty amazing features. However, the features are well-distributed based on the trim levels. The three low variants get a standard 6-speaker system, while the Limited gets a B & O sound system with 12 speakers.
However, the same is taken a notch ahead in the Stealth and Platinum trims where the automaker offers a B&O Unleashed sound system with as many as 22 speakers.
Comfort & convenience
As far as comfort and convenience are concerned, the Ford Expedition Stealth gets quite a lot of features over the base model. Some of the features include a 10-way power driver and 8-way power front passenger seats, 220V power outlet, power tilt and telescopic steering, power-adjustable pedals, wireless charging pad, heated steering wheel, etc. All these features are added as standard on the top trims (including Stealth), while the base XL and XLT get them either as optional or completely missing out.
The Stealth also gets enhanced active noise control and engine sound enhancement, while other trims miss out on it. In addition, power panoramic Vista sunroof is given as standard on the top three trims, while the bottom three miss out on the same.
Climate control
Another very significant feature of the Stealth edition of the Expedition is its triple-zone automatic climate control. The base model of the SUV misses out on this comfort feature while getting only a dual-zone automatic climate control.
The American automaker adds the triple-zone automatic climate control feature as standard in the Platinum, Limited, and Timberline variants as well.
Side-view mirror and 2nd row window
The buyers of the Ford Expedition Stealth edition will also get auto-dimming driver‘s side-view mirrors. This will make it very convenient for the driver to not be blinded by high beam headlights of vehicles approaching from behind after dark.
Even the second row gets one touch up/down for the windows in the Stealth as opposed to the bottom three trims. However, this same feature is offered in the Timberline as optional.
Smart Ford Co-Pilot tech
The Ford Expedition Stealth edition gets a lot of goodies that other variants miss out on in terms of the tech used. The Stealth and Platinum variants get the Ford Co-Pilot 360 Assist+ as a standard fitment. This technology suite includes adaptive cruise control, with lane centering and Start-and-Go, Intersection Assist, front parking sensors, Blind Spot Assist, and a navigation system.
Moreover, the Stealth edition of the Expedition also gets Ford Co-Pilot 360 Assist 2.0, which includes a 360-degree camera with Split-View display, front and rear washers, Active Park Assist 2.0, and Reverse Brake Assist.
Blacked-out appearance
The Ford Expedition Stealth edition also gets an exclusive aesthetic touch. The grille and tailgate applique is done in Ebony Black compared to chrome or grey on the other models. The black treatment is also continued on other elements, like the rear bumper, badging, headlamp and tail lights bezels, and roof-rack side rails.
Running board
Ford offers a unique aesthetic and functional feature on the Stealth edition as a standard fitment. This is the power-deployable running boards on board sides of the SUV, adding a premium touch. Though the same feature is offered as standard in the Platinum and optional in the Limited variant, no other variant gets the same.
Conclusion
The Ford Expedition was already a successful model for the automaker, and Stealth takes the benchmark higher. Plus, given the fact that the Stealth is not the top-of-the-line trim, it is less expensive than the Platinum. However, even with the price cut, the car gets premium features, giving the buyers many reasons to get it!
