2025 MG4 EV: First Impression
The 2025 MG4 EV or MG4 Electric is the latest car launched by MG Motor in the UAE. Unlike the MG ZS EV, the new MG4 is a purpose-built electric hatchback from the ground up. Along with its Inter Emirates Motors partner, MG4 EVs launch took place in the bustling metropolis of Dubai.

There is also a LUX variant with the larger 77 kWh battery pack. The 2025 MG4 EV in the UAE costs from AED 103,000 to AED 138,000 (including 5 percent VAT). One of the largest MG Motors showrooms is located on the Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai and is operated by Inter Emirates Motors.
Exterior
One of the most eye-catching design cues of the MG4 EV is its sleek LED headlights with their unique arrangement. View them from an angle, and these LEDs will hold your attention for a fair length of time. The front bumper commands a second glance as well, courtesy of the extended lower lip and flared nostrils.
The fairly minimalistic styling also features sporty touches like a twin-aero spoiler and a well-detailed diffuser at the back. Aside from their design contributions, these elements ensure better aerodynamics and lower drag. The protruding taillights with their connected LEDs and the 18-inch alloy wheels with their aero-improved design further add to the styling of the MG4 EV.
Most variants of the 2025 MG4 Electric look urbane and relatively docile. However, the top-end XPower looks sportier owing to its bolder wheel design and yellow brake calipers. The MG4 EV is a sizeable hatchback with a wheelbase of 2,705 mm while measuring 4,287 mm in length, 2,060 mm in overall width, and up to 1,516 mm in height.
A boot capacity of 363 liters might not sound too impressive at first. However, it is more than sufficient to carry a few medium-sized trolley bags plus an equal number of smaller bags. The MG4 EV may not be the most charismatic-looking car, but its design is far from being offensive or just plain bland.
Interior
The MG4 EV’s cabin welcomes you with a tangible sense of space that allows occupants to feel comfortable and relaxed. MG has made a conscious effort to keep this interior clutter-free while also incorporating some smart design choices. The flat upper dash, for example, extends quite a way forward and is covered in a light but soft material.
The lower dash features thin AC vents, alongside a top-mounted infotainment screen with physical shortcut buttons. The instrument cluster is also a digital unit, though a much smaller square one. A ‘floating’ island-like protrusion juts out from the center console, which houses the rotary gear selector, electronic parking brake, and a wireless charging pad.
Some might find the 7-inch digital driver’s display to be on the smaller side, but it packs a lot of useful information. The chunky leather-wrapped steering wheel looks interesting, while the leatherette seats provide good comfort even for those with a wider frame. The front seatbacks get the usual large pocket plus two smaller pockets for extra convenience.
There are even more storage options at the front, especially between the front seats along the center aisle. The quality of materials and the overall build of the MG4 EV’s interior do not feel cheap in the slightest. The large windows provide airiness and ample natural lighting, though there is no rear center armrest or a glass roof.
Other misses include no electric adjustment for the front passenger seat, no ventilated seats, and no LED mood lighting. The MG4 EV can be had with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, reach & rake adjustable steering wheel, automatic climate control, a 6-way electrically-operated & heated driver’s seat, a 6-speaker audio system, voice recognition, launch control, and 360-degree cameras.
Engine and performance
A single electric motor at the back powers the 51 kWh and 64 kWh versions of the MG4 EV. On the STD, COM, and LUX variants, this motor produces either 168 hp (125 kW) or 201 hp (150 kW).
Moreover, these variants are only available with rear-wheel drive.
The top-end XPower also uses a 64 kWh battery pack but gets all-wheel drive with dual electric motors. At its disposal is 429 hp (320 kW), which means a top speed of over 200 kmph and 0-100 kmph in under 4 seconds. It has a maximum WLTP range of 400 km.
The STD, COM, and LUX variants take less than 8 seconds to breach 100 kmph, while their range varies between 350 km to 465 km. However, the LUX variant of the MG4 EV can be optioned with the larger 77 kWh battery pack, in which case the WLTP range climbs to 530 km while the top speed becomes 180 kmph.
As for the STD and COM variants of the MG4 EV, their top speed is limited to 160 kmph. The maximum DC charging speed of the entry-level STD variant is 85 kW, with the rest being capable of 140 kW. Drivers can adjust the performance parameters by toggling between different drive modes, while the XPower also offers launch control.
Safety
The standard safety features of the 2025 MG4 EV include TPMS, electronic stability program, auto-emergency braking, and 6 airbags. Its other equipment includes ISOFIX rear-seat anchors, emergency calling, seatbelt reminders, automatic headlights, and automatic brake hold. Understandably, the most advanced tech is reserved for the top variants.
The MG Pilot suite bundles together features such as rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, blind-spot detection, and door-opening warning. Apart from these, the MG4 EV also gets things like ‘Unsteady Driver Warning’ and a ‘Smart Speed Assist System’. All four corners get disc brakes as standard with ABS and EBD.
Conclusion
The 2025 MG4 EV is a pretty well-rounded package, at least as far as a compact electric hatchback is concerned. It possesses decent looks, a spacious cabin with minimal design distractions, and comes with a variety of battery & drivetrain configurations. While the 51 kWh STD variant can be ignored, the 64 kWh COM variant is more compelling.
It should be capable of a real-world range of between 350-370 kilometers, which is not bad for an urban runabout. While it is not the quickest, the same cannot be said for its 140 kW fast-charging capability. The 17-inch wheels may not look the best, but they do make the ride quality a little better over the 18s.
However, if you can stretch your budget by another 21,000 dirhams, you can get the 77 kWh LUX variant. This not only means a real-world range of around 420 kilometers but also more features including but not limited to the MG Pilot ADAS suite, 360-degree cameras, wireless charging, and a nicer-looking interior.
Spending another 6,000 dirhams will get you the performance-oriented XPower variant. It is not only the quickest, but the XPower also gets sports pedals, launch control, an electronic differential lock, and colored brake calipers. The extra performance does come at a cost though, and that is real-world range, which should be around 300-320 kilometers.
