The 2024 Fortuner is already a bestseller in several countries. Its price starts from AED 126,900. The 2024 Fortuner is a quintessential SUV. It's big, bold, and aggressive.

What features does the Toyota Fortuner get?

The SUV was updated for the 2021 model year and the 2024 Toyota Fortuner gets a few cosmetic upgrades. There's a new grille and bumper in the front and larger air inlets behind the fog lamps. The car gets all-around LED lighting. There are new daytime running lights (DRLs) on the chin. The scuff plate is now wider. The VXR model gets an all-new nose with a more rakish-looking narrow grille paired with a deep air dam. At the back, the only change is in the tailgate design. The new dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels add a nice touch.

Fundamental changes in the 2024 Toyota Fortuner's cabin are limited. But there's a lot more kit. The entry-level model gets leatherette seats. A choice of black or tan leather interior is also available. A lot of hard plastics have been used in the cabin to keep production costs under control. But these don't look out of place. The dashboard now gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with shortcut controls. The display is crisp and the icons are bold. The VXR trim gets a premium 11-speaker audio system with an extra powered subwoofer. Other cabin features in the 2024 Toyota Fortuner VXR include one two-tone seat, ambient lighting, wireless charging, electronic rearview mirror, and a kick sensor to open the tailgate The entry-level model has none of these features. The VXR also gets a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and a leather-like padded cover for the top glovebox. There's a lot of gloss-black finish. The 4.2-inch multi-information display comprises round dials with easy readout. The climate control is operable via physical buttons and that's easy to use.

How spacious is the Toyota Fortuner?

With 4,795mm length, 1,855mm width, 1,835mm height, and a wheelbase of 2,745mm, the 2024 Toyota Fortuner is smaller than the Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in the international market. But there's still enough space in the cabin. The front seats and flat and wide and that makes them more comfortable during long trips. All seats get great padding. Second-row space is generous, courtesy the seat base that slides forward and backward. They get reclinable backrests. There's enough legroom and headroom on all seats. The third row is the least spacious, like in most midsized SUVs. Getting into the last row is quite a challenge, though the second row gets 60:40 split function. Full-sized adults will find the third row crammed. 

The 2024 Toyota Fortuner has rather limited storage options. The cabin does get the underarm storage cubby and the requisite cupholders. The wallet and smartphone tray are shallow and is placed under the central console. The second row gets a foldable central armrest with two cupholders. But the door pockets are deep and can accommodate a full-sized bottle.

What engine and transmission options are available?

The 2024 Toyota Fortuner EXR is hauled by a turbocharged, four-cylinder, 2.7-litre petrol engine that produces 165PS/245Nm. The motor is mated to a six-speed automatic. The higher GXR and VXR models get a turbocharged, six-cylinder, 4.0-litre petrol engine that produces 235PS/376Nm. This motor is also mated to a six-speed automatic. The 2024 Toyota Fortuner feels settled and confident on the move. The ride becomes more planted when the SUV is fully loaded with passengers and cargo. Though the SUV gets optional all-wheel-drive, it isn't a true-blue off-roader. The suspension is nicely balanced but is mostly on the stiffer side. The impact from some of the bigger bumps and potholes are felt inside the cabin.

Other things to consider

The 2024 Toyota Fortuner has become a benchmark in the midsized SUV segment. The top-level VXR trim is more expensive than most of its rivals. The cabin isn't any big step up in quality. It gets no sunroof. The ride quality does get bumpy at times.
