Mitsubishi Montero Sport

The Mitsubishi Montero Sport tries to impress with its bold exterior design, however, things are quite simple and laid back once you step inside the cabin. It doesn’t generate that same wow appeal of the outer design but is well put together in terms of quality.

The dashboard looks quite simple with a four-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, however, the full TFT instrument console definitely brings a fresh wave of change to the cabin. The cascading theme of the centre console looks good with a centrally placed touchscreen infotainment system, with vertical AC vents flanking it and a small horizontal console for climate control buttons below it, along with thick silver garnish on outer vertical edges.

With a seven-seater layout, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport feels quite big and spacious on the inside, though the third row of seats fall short a bit on knee room and leg room. The presence of additional features like a sunroof, Android Auto and Apple Carplay, powered tailgate, electrically adjustable front seats and leather upholstery make the Montero Sport even more premium than ever before.

With the facelift, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport now feels like a good combination of the rugged looks of the pre-facelift model as well as the dynamism of the all-new generation models of Mitsubishi.

The front fascia of the Mitsubishi Montero Sport is the one which has received the most major changes, with the SUV now getting a new three slat chrome grille, along with angular set of full LED headlamps along with wraparound chrome elements which stretch down to the lower front grille, ending towards vertical lamp assembly comprising of turn indicators and fog lamps on the outer edges of the front bumper.

The side profile of the Mitsubishi Montero Sport remains more or less unchanged, save for new design of the machined alloy wheels, with the SUV retaining the edgy character lines on front and rear sides as well as roof rails and heightened stance giving it the true SUV flavour.

At the rear, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport retains the trademark vertical and slim tail lamps with LED inserts, which now extend a bit towards the sides as well.

The large and hefty Mitsubishi Montero Sport, in a traditional SUV manner, comes with a slightly rigid suspension setup, which is well complemented with a low ratio four-wheel drive system, which gets off-road mode with multiple driving modes – gravel, mud/snow, sand or rock. Along with this, it also gets a rear differential lock for pure off-road driving experience, unlike many other pseudo urban SUVs.

On offer for the Mitsubishi Montero Sport are two engine options, one petrol, and one diesel, both of which are paired to a common 8-speed automatic gearbox. Talking about the petrol engine first, the 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine delivers a maximum power output of 210 PS and a peak torque output of 280 Nm. The more economic 2.4-litre diesel engine, on the other hand, pumps out 180 PS of power and 430 Nm of torque.

The Mitsubishi Montero Sport has been equipped with top class safety features like front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, hill start assist, hill descent control, active stability control, traction control, forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning with lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system, electronic parking brake, multi-view monitor and front and rear parking sensors.

The Mitsubishi Montero Sport, with its tough and bulky looks, torquey engine and great prowess in its off-road driving experience, provides a true blue SUV experience at the price of a midsize urban crossover. The seven-seater layout and enhanced exterior and interior cabin with new features have made the Montero Sport even more desirable than ever before.
