Chevrolet Groove

Like the exterior, the interior of the Chevrolet Groove also looks inspired by that of the Captiva. The cabin layout looks wide and has an all-black theme, with a youthful-looking, red-coloured design inserts on the middle of the dashboard on the co-passenger side.

The driver’s cockpit of the Chevrolet Groove comprises a multi-functional, tilt, and telescopic adjustable steering wheel with a fully-digital instrument console behind it. The centre of the dashboard gets a free-standing 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which features all the modern connectivity features within it. Chevrolet has given a hexagonal theme for the central AC vents and housing for the toggle-like switches below it for various functions, with the AC vents getting premium-looking satin silver surrounds. The lower centre console of the Chevrolet Groove houses the switches for automatic climate control.

The spacious cabin of the Chevrolet Groove is decently decked with features like a height-adjustable driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, rear AC vents, push start-stop button, electrically adjustable and foldable rear view mirrors, contrast red stitching for the cloth upholstery and more.

Inspired by its larger sibling Captiva, the Chevrolet Groove looks like a scaled-down version of the former. For a premium compact SUV, the Groove has a nice stance comparable to many SUVs positioned one segment above, which gives it a good road presence and stance of a bigger SUV.

At the front, the Chevrolet Groove has an uncanny resemblance with the bigger Captiva, thanks to the widespread grille and the split headlamps. The front grille of the Chevrolet Groove has three horizontal silver strips running across its width, while the split headlamps comprise dual-functioning daytime running LEDs at the top and housing for projector headlamps and fog lamps on the lower bumper. The front bumper looks sporty with a dark grey skid plate placed in the middle.

The side profile of the Chevrolet Groove also looks heavily inspired by that of the larger Captiva, with the former having the same design for the blacked-out C-pillar garnish beyond the rear windows. The slightly squared wheel arches and high-riding character line on the side profile of the Groove give it a stance of a premium SUV, while the wheel arch moulding adds a touch of ruggedness to it. The Groove also features chrome garnish on the shoulder line and large roof rails.

At the back, the Chevrolet Groove gets a combination theme for the wishbone-shaped LED tail lamps, which looks stylish and makes the otherwise simple-looking rear profile interesting. The scooped trapezoidal housing for the rear license plate, roof-mounted spoiler with integrated brake light, and premium-looking silver skid plate at the bottom of the rear bumper complete the rear look of the SUV.

Underneath the monocoque construction of the Chevrolet Groove, the SUV gets a simple mechanical construction comprising of McPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. The ride quality feels decently settled and comfortable, though the light steering setup lacks the desired feedback.

The only engine option provided in the Chevrolet Groove’s lineup for the UAE is the 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Paired with a CVT gearbox as standard, the engine puts up 110 PS of maximum power and 147 Nm of maximum torque outputs. The engine feels decently refined and powerful in the lower RPMs but needs working out as the RPMs rise.

Decently equipped with safety features, the Chevrolet Groove features front and side airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, a rear camera and an engine immobilizer.

While the overall size and stance of the Chevrolet Groove give it an upper hand over other premium compact SUVs, we would have loved to see more features on offer. Overall, the Groove has a pleasant driving experience with a decent amount of power and comfort from its ride quality.
