Audi RS6 Avant Expert Review
Abhishek Katariya says
Since it arrived in the automotive scene, the Audi RS6 Avant has revolutionised the concept of station wagons, by infusing the essence of a sports cart in a practical station wagon, promising to offer the best of both worlds. Claiming to offer top-class performance levels, the Audi RS6 Avant is one of the most expensive family-oriented station wagons, which is offered in the UAE car market in a single variant.
The standard colour options on offer for the Audi RS6 Avant include Arkona White, Nardo Grey, Ascari Blue, Floret Silver, Grenadine Red, Glacier White, Madeira Brown, Mythos Black and Tango Red. There are some additional premium exclusive colours on offer too, including Citrus Yellow, Daytona Grey, Sebring Black, Cumulus Blue, Suzuka Grey, Ipanema Brown, Java Green, Siam Beige, Goodwood Green, Velvet Pearl, Ara Blue and Panther Black.
Audi RS6 Avant Interior & Features
The UAE-spec version of the Audi RS6 Avant comes with two Valcona and Milano leather upholstery options – all-black and dual-tone black and grey themes. Apart from the Valcona leather treatment for the RS sports seats, the centre console and door armrests get a Nappa leather finish, while the side centre console, transmission lever and flat-bottomed multi-functional steering wheel feature Alcantara leather upholstery. Most of these leather-finished panels also come with contrast stitching with various colour options, along with decorative inserts in a carbon twill structure.
The cabin of the Audi RS6 Avant feels high-tech with the presence of an Audi virtual cockpit Plus with full-TFT display modes behind the adjustable and heated steering wheel. The slanted layers of the dashboard and two raked touchscreens for the audio and infotainment system above and climate and other vehicular functions below further increase the tech quotient of the Audi RS6 Avant. The station wagon further gets features like heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display, a Bang & Olufsen audio system with 3D sound, colour ambient lighting and an Audi smartphone interface.
RS6 Avant Exterior
The Audi RS6 Avant is currently in its fourth-generation version, and in this latest one, it has become the flashiest and most aggressive one too. The new RS6 Avant seeks inspiration from the other RS-branded Audi offerings, and infuses them in a rather functional body style of a station wagon, eventually forming a very exclusive-looking vehicle.
At the front, the Audi RS6 Avant boasts of a traditional hexagonal grille with an all-gloss-black theme, honeycomb mesh and an offset RS logo. This aggressive-looking station wagon comes with an RS exterior package as standard, which brings a more gloss black finish for the Audi logos and badges at the front and rear. The upper edges of the grille here come with trapezoidal all-LED headlamps with a Matrix LED lighting theme, which showcases some creative lighting patterns ahead.
The front bumper of the Audi RS6 Avant has triangular mesh air dams on the sides of the front bumper with silver-garnished air curtains within them. The side profile of the Audi RS6 Avant has the typical station wagon theme with a slightly boxy but low-slung profile, thanks to the lowered ground clearance and large 22-inch RS alloy wheels with low-profile tyres. More highlights on the side profile of the Audi RS6 Avant include a chrome theme for the window surrounds and a satin silver theme for the roof rails, side skirts and rearview mirrors.
The rear profile of the Audi RS6 Avant looks wide with its station wagon profile, which includes highlights like angular windscreen, and angular combination tail lamps with dynamic LED lighting inserts. The tail lamps also have a thin chrome strip between them across the width of the boot. The rear bumper of the Audi RS6 Avant has huge silver garnish panels over the diffuser and dual ovular exhaust ports, which further make the rear profile look as aggressive as the frontal look of the car.
Audi RS6 Avant Ride & Handling
The Audi RS6 Avant feels like a full-blown sports car to drive with impeccable traction and stability, thanks to the Quattro all-wheel drive with sports differential offered as standard. Besides the Quattro system which gives the Audi RS6 Avant ample grip and traction on the road, the station wagon also has a dynamic steering wheel, RS steel brakes, Audi drive select with multiple drive modes and RS sports exhaust system for a pure exhilarating driving experience.
RS6 Avant Engine & Fuel Consumption
Powering the Audi RS6 Avant is a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, which features mild-hybrid technology and is coupled with an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. One of the most powerful engines from Audi at this moment, this engine churns out 630 PS of maximum power and 800 Nm of maximum torque. With a claimed top speed of 280 kmph and a 0-100 kmph sprint timing of 3.6 seconds, the Audi RS6 Avant is one of the fastest and most powerful station wagons on sale in the world.
Audi RS6 Avant Braking & Safety
The Audi RS6 Avant feels decently equipped with several modern features on offer as standard, including front, side and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, Audi pre-sense basic package, lane change assist, exit warning, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree parking camera, Audi hold assist, traction control, electronic stability control and tyre pressure monitoring system.
RS6 Avant Verdict
The Audi RS6 Avant is lively proof that station wagons need not be boring, and can outrun even some sports cars, it offers bonkers performance and driving appeal without compromising on the space and practicality of a family-oriented station wagon.
