UAE sets new tariffs for EV charging stations
ABU DHABI: The UAE Cabinet has set a new tariff for EV charging via Cabinet Resolution No. 81 of 2024. The aim of this new structure is to standardize rates, similar to the pricing of petrol, with fees subject to monthly adjustments. The Council of Ministers has the authority to modify these fees as needed.

The United Arab Emirates Electric Vehicle Network announced an initial 100 free charging spots and nationwide installation of fast-charging units in May 2024. Until the end of 2024, drivers will be able to use the new fast-charging electric vehicle units free of charge. Pricing for these units' usage beyond 2024 will be announced at a later date. This has been done to encourage UAE residents to adopt electric vehicles.
Federal authorities will collect the new EV charging fees using methods that the Ministry of Finance has determined. As established at the Emirate level, in each Emirate, local authorities will enforce the fee collection mechanisms. To ensure the new fee structure’s smooth enforcement, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure will enter into a partnership with the Ministry of Finance. This will aid in issuing any required procedures or executive decisions.
