Toyota confirms the mild-hybrid versions of Hilux and Fortuner in 2024

ABU DHABI: As the demand for hybrid cars is increasing day by day, many automobile manufacturers are launching cars outfitted with such technology or updating their existing lineup. Toyota South Africa has also decided to give a hybrid treatment to its Hilux pickup truck and Fortuner SUV. 

Toyota South Africa Motors Senior Vice-President also revealed that the Hilux would have a 48-volt setup, which could be the last mechanical overhaul the current generation will benefit from before its replacement arrives in 2025. 

Toyota Hilux and Fortuner are due for a major update, and as per a few reports, their next-generation models are already in development. There is no information if the mild-hybrid powertrains will debut on the current-gen ones or next-gen models. 

Toyota has not revealed the specifics of the hybrid powertrains, but as per a report, both the models will have a 2.8-litre, turbocharged diesel engine, generating 500 Nm of peak torque and a maximum power of 204 bhp. The next-gen Hilux and Fortuner will be based on the TNGA-F platform.

Currently, Toyota Hilux is available in two engine options in the UAE, and the Fortuner SUV is available in three versions. With the introduction of the hybrid models of both these vehicles, the sale is expected to go high. But Toyota has not dropped hints about the launch of the mild-hybrid powertrains of the Hilux pickup truck and Fortuner SUV in the UAE.

Both these models will be launched in the global market next year. We will have to wait to see when both of these models arrive in the UAE.
