This pure electric Toyota Land Cruiser is designed to go anywhere

ABU DHABI: Voltra has built a pure electric pickup, based on the 70 Series Toyota Land Cruiser in association with BHP, an Australian mining company. The electric pickup has been named Voltra e-Cruiser. Although the vehicle is currently a prototype, the specific details of the car can be expected soon.

The prototype of the electric Toyota Land Cruiser was initiated by BHP. To convert the Land Cruiser from a 4.5-litre turbo-diesel V8 with an electric motor and a set of lithium-ion batteries, Voltra was appointed. Voltra, an Adelaide-based firm, made this conversion possible and termed the vehicle as Voltra e-Cruiser.
Voltra says that the converted Land Cruiser is going to retain its 4x4 capability. The vehicle is also said to be equipped with regenerative braking as an additional feature.

The Voltra e-Cruiser is going to join BHP’s fleet of mining vehicles. The company is going to monitor the vehicle minutely, including its performance, power supply and durability background.

BHP’s intention behind producing the Land Cruiser as a pure electric vehicle was mainly to reduce the carbon impact of their fleet. With the presence of an electric Land Cruiser, BHP could reduce the exposure of diesel air to their staff of around 800 people working at the site. Furthermore, if the prototype of Voltra e-Cruiser proves to be a success, the company is then going to electrify their entire fleet.

The price of the Voltra e-Cruiser has not yet been disclosed by Voltra. But, it was mentioned by the company that its cost is likely to be reduced by 10 to 20%. Other specifications of the vehicle can be expected to be announced soon. The launch of this powerful electric Land Cruiser is surely going to boost the usage of more electric vehicles across the world.
