Tata Avinya EV to utilise JLR's EMA platform

ABU DHABI: The Indian automaker Tata Motors has achieved a huge milestone by collaborating with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). Through this partnership, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) will create breakthrough electric vehicles based on the Avinya concept. The upcoming Tata Avinya will utilise Jaguar Land Rover's electrified modular architecture platform.

The upcoming Tata Avinya will be based on Jaguar Land Rover's electrified modular architecture platform.
  • When will the EMA platform-based vehicle's production start in the UK?

The EMA platform-based vehicle’s production will start in late 2024 in the UK.
  • This agreement involves JLR sharing its all-electric platform with TPEM. For this access, TPEM will pay a royalty fee to JLR. Both TPEM and JLR are Tata Motors' 100% subsidiaries.

Tata Motors is accelerating towards Gen 3 products or skateboard electric vehicles. The company had outlined a plan previously with converted architecture or Gen 1, flexible BEV and ICE architecture or Gen 2, and now pure EV architecture or Gen 3. While searching for a platform for pure EVs, JLR's architecture suited their Avinya concept. The Avinya will likely spawn a family of EVs in the future. The Avinya is a unique concept that was showcased for the first time in 2022. It will be more luxurious than the current lineup of Tata's vehicles.

Jaguar Land Rover announced its EMA architecture in 2021. The future Evoque, Velar, and Discovery Sport models will be underpinned by this platform. The scheduled debut date for Velar is in late 2024.

The EMA prioritises cloud connectivity, advanced driver assistance, and communication with traffic networks and other vehicles. The platform enables Level 2+ autonomy, Software Over The Air (SOTA), and Feature Over The Air (FOTA). It integrates charging management and a cell-to-pack battery system and aligns with all the important safety standards. It also offers superfast charging for performance-oriented vehicles.

The EMA platform-based vehicle's production will start in late 2024 in the UK at JLR's Halewood plant.
