Swiss government banned a few diesel models of Mercedes and Porsche
ABU DHABI: On Wednesday, Astra roads Agency said that the Swiss Government has now banned some diesel models from Mercedes-Benz and Porsche that were found to have failed emission norms.
Models like the Mercedes-Benz Vito with a 1.6-litre diesel engine, Porsche Macan with a 3.0-litre diesel engine and Porsche Cayenne with a 4.2-litre diesel engine. Astra further said in its statement that this step will be regulated on vehicles which are imported after 17 August. The vehicles that are already registered can operate in Switzerland but must be modified according to the Swiss emissions norms. These said vehicles don’t meet the Euro 6 Emission Norms.
Daimler in its interview with Automotive News said the company had stopped exporting the Mercedes Vito model. This was after the German authorities ordered a recall and end to new registrations of the model in May. In an email, a spokesman for the German Manufacturer said that this direction of the German government has severely affected 24 of Mercedes Vito models which were heading towards Switzerland. This represents a strict attitude towards diesel emissions and this seems like a good thing.
