Renault-owned Dacia introduces new Bigster SUV

ABU DHABI: Dacia, Renault's budget brand, has unveiled the Bigster ahead of its public debut on October 17 at the Paris Motor Show.

    The Bigster’s exterior styling is similar to that of the new Duster but with a larger dimension. Both SUVs' front fascia is the same, though the Bigster has a slightly modified bumper with a striking fog lamp housing. You will also find similarities in their side profiles as they have the same alloy wheel design. The Bigster at the rear features a robust bumper and well-designed tail lights, giving it a muscular look.

    The Bigster’s cabin layout is similar to that of the Duster. It offers a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and a choice between a 10 or a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Depending on the variant you select, it includes an ADAS suite and highlights like a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, wireless charging, an Arkamys audio system, dual-zone climate control, and a powered driver's seat.

    Duster-based Bigster is available with three powertrain options. A hybrid system that combines two electric motors with a four-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 155 hp total output and mated with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

    With the second option, the customers get a mild-hybrid system with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine, available with optional four-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox. With the third option comes a 1.2-litre LPG-run turbo-petrol engine, equipped with a 49-litre LPG tank and 50-litre petrol tank, providing around 1,450 km range.

    Although European markets are not expected to get a diesel-powered Bigster, it will most likely be available in some of the developing markets. There are no updates about the launch of this new model in the UAE.
