Nissan’s Electric Future: New Micra, LEAF, and JUKE EVs Announced

Abu Dhabi : Big EV changes are coming to Nissan, with a new Micra, LEAF, and JUKE electric model set to hit roads over the next two years.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What new electric models is Nissan planning to launch in the next two years?
Nissan is planning to launch a new Micra EV, a third-generation LEAF, and an all-electric JUKE.What is the expected range of the new Micra EV?
The new Micra EV is expected to have a range of over 400 km.- The new Micra EV launches in 2025 with an over 400 km range.
- Third-gen LEAF to bring sleeker design and CMF-EV platform.
- Nissan’s e-POWER tech receives efficiency upgrades.
Nissan is pushing ahead with its electrification goals, revealing key details about its upcoming electric lineup. Set for launch in 2025 are two important models: a reborn Micra as a full EV and a sleeker third-generation LEAF.
Alongside these, Nissan’s e-POWER hybrid technology will get a much-needed update. Looking ahead, an all-electric JUKE is scheduled for debut in 2026, marking the full shift to electrification across Nissan’s popular urban range.
With these announcements, Nissan is strengthening its presence in the electric hatchback and crossover segments, although these new offerings may remain exclusive to European markets for now — especially the Micra and LEAF EVs, both of which will be manufactured in Europe.

A Fresh Take on Familiar Names
The Micra, a long-time favourite for city drivers and a former rental staple in the UAE, is making a comeback as a pure electric hatchback. Designed in London, the new Micra sits on the AmpR Small platform, shared with Renault’s R5 EV. It will be offered with 40kWh and 52kWh battery options, delivering up to 400 km of driving range.
Built in France, the Micra EV is set to go on sale in Europe before the end of 2025. Given its European build and EV status, it may not return to the UAE market where cost and charging infrastructure remain key challenges.
The new LEAF, meanwhile, marks the third generation of the nameplate that launched Nissan’s EV journey back in 2010. This version is based on the CMF-EV platform — the same one used by the Nissan Ariya — and will feature a more aerodynamic design. Production will take place at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK, part of its large-scale EV36Zero initiative.
Despite being teased in the GCC over the years, both the LEAF and Ariya never made it to the UAE, and the new LEAF seems likely to follow the same path.
e-POWER System Receives Key Updates
- Updated for 2024 under the “Kaizen” (continuous improvement) principle.
- Offers improved efficiency and smoother drive.
- Does not need external charging — uses petrol to power the electric motor.
- Continues on Qashqai and X-Trail models in Europe.
- Over 250,000 e-POWER cars already sold in Europe.

JUKE EV Arriving in 2026
The current JUKE is set to be replaced by a fully electric model in fiscal year 2026. Nissan confirmed that the next-generation JUKE will go electric and may carry design traits from the eye-catching Hyper Punk concept shown in Japan last year.
With the JUKE being a well-known name in the UAE, an electric version might hold stronger potential for regional launch — especially if paired with e-POWER or long-range capabilities.
Nissan’s EV roadmap is finally gaining speed, with three major new electric models on the horizon. While the Micra and LEAF EVs are focused on European markets, the updated e-POWER tech and upcoming JUKE EV could find stronger appeal in the UAE. The future looks electric for Nissan — but it may take a little longer to arrive in this region.
