Jeep to showcase three 4xe PHUVs at CES 2020

American sports utility vehicle (SUV) manufacturer, Jeep is all set to showcase its first three plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHUVs) at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020 slated to begin on 7 January. The three-day event will be held at the Las Vegas World Trade Center. The new models are expected to be the Compass, Renegade, and Wrangler. All three cars will carry the ‘Jeep 4xe’ logo.

Fiat Chrysler-owned Jeep has already stated that it will offer electric versions of all its models that include a series of on-road cars as well. Industry observers believe that the introduction of the three new models will be the company’s first step in this regard. The 4xe is a perfect combination of eco-friendly technology and off-road capabilities that are expected out of modern SUVs

Not much information is available at the moment regarding the three PHUVs. Jeep has said that further details are on the way once the trio debuts at the CES 2020.

The new plug-in hybrid technology will undeniably outperform the eTorque powertrain system which currently hauls most Jeep cars. Besides conforming to better emissions, the PHUVs are expected to offer more instantaneous low-end torque. The three new Jeep PHUVs aren’t exactly zero-emission vehicles. However, unless manufacturers come up with batteries that can reliably and realistically complete journeys of several hundred miles with no recharging stations, plug-in hybrid cars seem to be the best option to go green.

Fiat Chrysler, compared to its rivals, took much time to introduce just one hybrid car in the market. The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica was the first plug-in hybrid car to be sold commercially. Priorities of both on-road and off-road motoring enthusiasts have increasingly shifted towards a more environmentally conscious talking point in the last few years. The same is expected to continue as automobile manufacturers announce plans to go all-electric.

Experts believe that Jeep has the opportunity to steer the growth of all-electric SUVs. The Wrangler 4xe is likely to be a major turning point for the Toledo-headquartered company, leading to an all-electric Wrangler. It has claimed that their upcoming electric cars will be the most responsible and efficient Jeep vehicles ever.
