Jeep to officially unveil the 2019 Wrangler pickup at Los Angeles Auto Show

ABU DHABI: Like the previous year, Jeep will also be a part of the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2018. This year, the manufacturer is all set to unveil the 2019 Wrangler pickup in LA Auto show. If rumors are to be believed, the pickup will be called Gladiator. It will compete against the segment leaders like Ford Ranger and Chevy Silverado. Earlier in 2016, a few spy shots of the 2019 Wrangler pickup had surfaced, which hinted that the pickup might adorn a five-door unlimited body style.

The Gladiator will share the styling with its SUV sibling. The pickup comes with a more classy windshield and a longer wheelbase so that you get more space in the cabin.

However, some of the design elements may differentiate the pickup from the Wrangler SUV. The Gladiator comes with a unique front grille, which features a dual-style design where huge vertical slats are placed on either side, while the Wrangler gets a seven-slat grille. Also, fenders are present on the 2019 Wrangler pickup to make it different from the other pickup trucks.

The manufacturer has not revealed anything about the engine. However, the automaker may surprise by providing the same engine as the Wrangler. The Wrangler comes with three different engine variants - a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6, capable of churning out maximum 290 PS of power along with a peak torque of 353 Nm, a 2.0-litre gasoline inline-four turbocharged unit that can produce up to 264 PS and 400 Nm of peak torque, and a new turbo-diesel 2.2-litre engine that can produce a maximum 200 PS of power along with 450 Nm of peak torque.

The V6 engine has a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission. The diesel engines and turbocharged gasoline only get the automatic transmission. The manufacturer also informed that the Wrangler will get a plug-in hybrid powertrain soon, which might also make its way to the Gladiator.
