Isuzu mu-X might welcome its baby brother in coming years

ABU DHABI: The popularity of the SUV segment is noteworthy in the auto market across the world. The buyers have shown a remarkable inclination towards this segment. This craze has attracted the attention of the Japanese automaker, Isuzu as well and it is reported that a small mu-X is currently under the development phase.

According to a suggestion made by a senior executive at Isuzu Motors, it is believed that the Japanese car maker is busy building a small SUV to slot in under the seven-seater Isuzu mu-X. It is confirmed that the Japanese brand is indeed working on this new compact SUV but no reliable information is available concerning how small it actually is.

Ken Takashima, who is the Executive Vice President and Deputy Managing Director of Isuzu Motors, shed no light on its launch or as such. He, however, assured that the family is on its way to welcome its smallest member in the near future. Isuzu has never built a small SUV except for the original 3-door MU models.

It is certain that the new baby brother of the bigger Isuzu mu-X will draw its power from a diesel engine, however, the power and torque reading, along with other necessary information, cannot be availed now. Isuzu models do not feature any unibody platform, therefore, the all-new baby model is likely to follow the traditional body-on-frame automobile construction method. There is also no confirmation available pertaining to whether the platform will be a shortened mu-X one or a complete brand new one.

The big brother, Isuzu mu-X, derives its power from a 2.5-litre TD I4 (four-cylinder) engine that offers a maximum of 135 PS and yields 320 Nm of torque. It projects a stylish look with an array of safety, comfort, and convenience additions, all to offer a safe and cosy ride to the passengers. Whether the baby Isuzu SUV will include all these or come with new additions are yet to be discovered. At present, it is being speculated that it might give competition to the likes of the Toyota Rush, and Suzuki Jimny.
