Electric Range Rover undergoes testing in UAE’s extreme heat
ABU DHABI: In the deserts of the UAE, the all-new Range Rover Electric prototypes are undergoing rigorous testing in extreme heat conditions. This hot-weather phase has been designed to challenge the performance of the SUV in extreme temperatures exceeding 122°F. Earlier, the EV was tested in the Arctic Circle.

The Range Rover Electric test mules are undergoing trials on Sharjah's Big Red dune to evaluate the new Intelligent Torque Management system, which reduces torque reaction time from 100ms to just 1ms. After five continuous attempts, JLR reports no performance decline.
The electric Range Rover utilizes an in-house assembled electric drive unit and battery, with an 800V charging system. Similar to the ICE version, its "go-anywhere" capability is exceptional, including all-terrain performance, towing, and the ability to wade through around 850 mm of water.
It is expected that the Range Rover electric will offer nearly 530 hp, with dual-motor tech for improved off-road capabilities and four-wheel-drive. The test program of JLR focuses on thermal derating, underfloor, and battery durability.
The EV will be built alongside hybrid versions in Solihull, UK. Initially, third-party batteries will be utilized before transitioning to Tata's Somerset gigafactory packs.
The Range Rover Electric’s prototype has been painted all black and it resembles the ICE version, with only a few minor differences. JLR has emphasized that the design of the vehicle stays true to the bloodline of Range Rover. The electric model will be minimally differentiated in comparison to the existing powertrains.
The Range Rover Electric has passed this important development phase successfully, with preparations underway to refine its luxury offerings ahead of client reservations starting in 2025.
