No toll until Jan 1, 2020 says Abu Dhabi Department of Transport
Abu Dhabi Department of Transport has decided not to charge toll from residents until Jan 1, 2020 for passing through selected bridges in the capital city. It, however, announced last month that Abu Dhabi residents will have to pay a toll for crossing certain bridges starting October 15, 2019. The date has already passed with department deciding to not charge the residents despite toll gates being set up and operational. The decision to not collect toll comes after the identification of a technical issue.
As per the reports, Abu Dhabi residents have also not received their login information yet. The AD Department of Transport has, however, mentioned that login details will be sent to the AD residents with vehicles registered in the capital on their registered mobile number via SMS. Residents outside Emirates who are trying to register their vehicle are facing similar login issues.
Vehicles passing underneath Abu Dhabi’s tollgate will have to pay a toll of AED 4 per trip during peak hours, while it reduces to AED 2 during usual hours. An option for monthly caps is also available, for the first car it is rated at AED 200, for the second it’s AED 150 and for any additional cars it’s AED 100.
If you fall under a low-income group or are disabled or a senior citizen or retiree, then there is no need to pay any toll, as per the exemption clause set by the AD Department of Transport.
