All-new Volkswagen Teramont - Thoughts on meeting the VW SUV for the first time

The German automaker is looking to expand its image beyond the classic, luxury sedan creating master. In the recent past, Volkswagen has added models like Tiguan, Touareg, and the new T-Roc to its lineup. While we still wait for the T-Roc SUV to land on the Middle Easter shores, here is a confirmed good news knocking our doors. Only a few days back, i.e in the first week of September 2018, Volkswagen UAE unveiled the all-new Teramont, a beautiful seven-seater SUV. Truly, it was all so sudden and no less than a surprise for the UAE auto arena, as no prior notice or hint was dropped by the company. Looks like VW is becoming quite a master in the game.

Before visiting the all-new VW Teramont, for the first time, we thought it would be a good idea to know a bit about its origin. And it looks like there’s not much to its past. In 2017, Volkswagen launched the Atlas SUV in the American market, and this particular car has been performing quite well and even grabbed several awards to its name. Fast forward one year, Altas was rebadged to Teramont and parcelled to the UAE, forging VWs SUV success story ahead.

Now the entire marketing strategy of the new Teramont highlights how it is perfect for big families and can take in all of the luggage. Well, guess what, the SUV has the dimensions that fully justify to the claim. With 5037 mm length, 1979 mm width, and 1768 mm height, it surely is a huge machine to take-in at first. But as you see it more and more, it captivates the onlooker with its not-so-loud but majestic aura. Its 2979 mm of wheelbase, assures a roomy cabin. LED headlights with signature LED daytime running lights, choice of 18 to 21-inch alloys, and a panoramic sunroof that almost runs to the length of all three rows are the only exterior sights we enjoyed. Rest all is expected.

The interior is where most of the 2018 Teramont treasure is hidden. Now, we were a crew of eight, who went down to inspect the new VW SUV. And guess what, the Teramont took us all in, despite one extra individual exceeding the seating limit. Also, the one setting at the rear got in and out pretty fast, thanks to the easy one-hand 3rd-row access. Another thing that impressed us was Teramont versatile seating configuration. The car is as good for a big family as for couple on a long journey. It not only allows you to fold the third but even the second row. The luggage volume, thus ranges from 583 to 2741 litres. Speaking of boot, there’s an easy open and close tailgate.

Talking about the comfort, while setting inside we surprising felt cool and calm, all because of the Active Ventilated Seats. Further, protecting you from the summer heat is the 3-zone climate control that covers the front, second and third rows equally. What made everyone in the crew happy were the 4 USB ports - two front and two rear charging ports. Talking about entertainment, the Fender Premium Audio System with a 480-watt amplifier and 12 speakers gave us a musical experience of life. The large touchscreen display takes care of all the features one expects from a car of its genre. It also come with App-connect.

Now, the UAE-spec Teramont is available in two trims - a 2.0L TSI 4Motion and 3.6L V6 4Motion. Sadly, this time we only got to experience the power of the Teramont via its looks, feel, and offering. However, we are pretty sure both the engines are turned to deliver some serious power. Supporting the engine and further getting the SUV ready for multiple road conditions is the Volkswagen 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.

 

Making the deal further attractive and wanting us to drive the all-new Teramont more is its amazing set of driving assistance features. It includes an Automatic Post-collision Braking system, Discover Media Navigation system, Overhead View Camera, Rear-View Camera System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor, Park Assist, Park Distance Control with Maneuver Braking, Rear Traffic Alert, and Area View.
