All-new 2019 Suzuki Jimny introduced with a new engine
ABU DHABI: The rugged, off-road Suzuki Jimny has been doing rounds in the UAE automobile industry ever since the company started teasing the latest iteration. And with the pre-launch popularity surging up, the Japanese automaker teased even the minute details of the car, including the photos.
Suzuki has finally revealed the new Jimny officially. And guess what, it has the same retro-inspired design with a modern approach that we were expecting from it. The design is mostly about being an urban city car with a lot of off-road abilities.
The round headlamps and the blacked-out grille with beefed up bumper impart a “macho” stance. The wheel arches for the 15-inch alloys are given the puffy black claddings which look rugged. At the rear, there is a spare tyre mounted, which carries forward the signature styling of the Jimny.
You can say that the 2019 Suzuki Jimny is boxier than it was before as it has its length decreased by 50 mm but the width and height are increased. Moreover, despite the shortened length, the wheelbase is identical to the previous model, which gets the overhangs to be marginally smaller than before.
Suzuki has taken the old 1.3-litre engine out of the equation for a new and bigger 1.5-litre four-cylinder (inline) motor. This engine can produce a good power of 102 PS at 6,000 RPM besides making 130 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 RPM. However, the amount of torque distribution is pretty impressive in the lower rev range so that the off roads can be beaten without a fuss.
The Suzuki has employed a modern approach to the Jimny cabin. The centre console has hooded analogue dials for the speedo and tacho. The big touchscreen display sits right at the top of the dashboard followed by the round dial knobs beneath. Being an off-roader, there is a large grab rail for the front passenger along with some bits of faux metal accents every here and there.
The 2019 Jimny comes with a 4x4 drivetrain system that Suzuki calls the ‘AllGrip Pro’, which is a part-time 4WD. It can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox option.
Apart from the part-time AWD, there are many other technical bits offered in the car. The company has added a system called DSBS, which is an automatic braking assist. It uses the camera and sensors to detect if there are any pedestrians or vehicle which could cause a collision. Once, the chance of a collision is detected, the driver will receive audible warnings and if no action is being taken, the system will initiate full brake pressure to minimise the effects.
Apart from this, there are standard features like an ABS, hill descent control and hill start assist and traction control.
The all-new 2019 Suzuki Jimny is expected to be introduced in the UAE market in the latter part of this year.
