2020 Nissan Patrol: How it stand against Ford Expedition and Toyota Land Cruiser
Making some of the most competitively priced yet rugged and versatile utility vehicles of our time Japanese carmaker nice Nissan has now updated its popular Patrol SUV with a new 2020 model year. The premium Japanese utility vehicle recently made its debut in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
The 2020 Nissan Patrol now comes equipped with more tech and creature comforts which help the high-rider exude luxury. The Japanese carmaker has assured us that in addition to enhancing the luxury features, Nissan has also focused on improving the SUV’s safety characteristics.
With the popularity of the utility vehicle segment on an all-time high, Nissan has announced that the United Arab Emirates will be the first market to receive the 2020 model year of Nissan Patrol. In the UAE, Nissan will compete against the outgoing model of Toyota’s iconic Land Cruiser nameplate. For this review, we will also pit Nissan's latest offering against the very capable Ford Expedition as we try and answer some pressing questions about the all-new Patrol SUV.
How much is the 2020 Nissan Patrol?
Prices for the entry-level Nissan Patrol XE variant start from AED 195,000 which happens to be the cheapest base trim in our comparison, even though the entry-level models of Ford Expedition and Toyota Land Cruiser share virtually the same price tag (taking into account the marginal AED 900 price difference). Going off of price alone it is safe to say that with the 2020 model update, Nissan has managed to deliver a competitively priced SUV that comes loaded with modern-day technology and will over time continue to offer the reliability that Japanese makes are globally renowned for.

Is 2020 Nissan Patrol a good car?
Speaking of reliability, another offering from fellow Japanese carmaker Toyota is also available in a six variant lineup like the 2020 Nissan Patrol. It is worth noting however that even though Patrol’s base variant happens to be the cheapest of the three SUVs in our comparison, the car’s top of the line model with its AED 342,000 price tag is also the most expensive of the three SUVs. The top of the range model of Toyota Land cruiser with its AED 299,900 is over AED 42,000 cheaper than the top of the line Patrol model.
This means Patrol is available in a wide range of kit and the lineup also features models that come jam-packed with the latest technology making it an impressive offering in the segment. This is not saying that a copy out of the wide range of Patrol models is the only option one has in the seven-seater SUV segment, as the outgoing models of some of the other popular utility vehicle brands also happen to be worthy contenders.
The 2020 Nissan Patrol features design updates that have resulted in larger overall dimensions. The SUV continues featuring an upright silhouette and gets Nissan’s V-Motion grille along with boomerang-shaped LED headlights that have been designed to complement the angular front fascia. The LED boomerang treatment can also be found at the rear of the SUV that blends into the high-riders rear profile along with sequential rear turn indicator and large chrome nameplate. The highlight of Nissan Patrol’s new cabin has to be the dual touchscreen infotainment unit that is now available with Android Auto and Apple Carplay.
Is 2020 Nissan Patrol underpowered?
2020 Nissan Patrol is now available with two engine options both of which are more powerful than the powerplant options offered in the ever so popular Toyota Land Cruiser. Therefore it comes as a surprise that Nissan’s SUV doesn’t hold the fastest 0 to 100 kmph sprint time and is slower than Land Cruiser and even the Ford Expedition, especially when comparing Patrol's 4.0-litre variant.

Which is better 2020 Nissan Patrol or 2020 Toyota Land Cruiser?
When it comes to performance the 2020 Nissan Patrol does not jump off the page to blow our minds. However, when it comes to offering a competitive price tag and a wide range of variants that can be customized to be packed to the brim with the latest infotainment and safety features, one may look no further than the 2020 Nissan Patrol, especially if one takes into account the Japanese carmaker’s new design language. The Toyota Land Cruiser, however, is an iconic nameplate and manages to hold its own in terms of powerplant options and performance but the outgoing model seems a tad dated.
