2019 Mercedes-Benz GLE revealed
ABU DHABI: After being in the news for quite a few days due to its series of teasers, Mercedes-Benz’s much awaited 2019 GLE has been introduced officially. The vehicle features the brand's current design language along with a lot of modern features. The fourth-gen Mercedes-Benz GLE replaces the previous-generation model and it will be slotted between the GLC and GLS.
The manufacturer only brings a single variant of the series as GLE 450 4Matic. It equips a turbocharged mild-hybrid 3.0-liter inline-six engine that can churn out a maximum of 362 PS along with 500 Nm of peak torque. The engine is further coupled with an electric motor which can thrust out the additional power of 21 PS and torque of 250 Nm. The SUV features AWD and the power is sent down through a 9-speed automatic gearbox. However, a turbodiesel, a plug-in hybrid and other engine options will be added later on.
Inside the 2019 GLE, a standard cabin, which is similar to the other current Mercedes-Benz models, has been provided. The MBUX infotainment system is also on offer to make the 2019 version of GLE in accordance with the modern times. Moreover, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen is perfectly placed beside the digital instrument cluster of same size. The customers will also have the option to buy the vehicle with the third row, making it a 7-seater vehicle.
Coming to the design, the fourth-gen GLE becomes rounder than ever. The front fascia gets a new look and now comes with a more pronounced grille. A new pair of square-shaped LED headlights is provided. A new pair of sleeker taillights dons at the rear along with the trapezoid-shaped exhaust. The fenders get the black body cladding, which provides a rugged look to the SUV.
A new feature called E-Active Body Control System is added to the feature list of 2019 GLE. This optional system is capable of adjusting the suspension's damper on corners individually. For live traffic monitoring, the vehicle gets a new Active Distance Assist Distronic.
The 2019 GLE will be showcased at the Paris Motor Show in October and will go on sale in 2019.
