The Wagoneer S is a midsize crossover SUV, which will be smaller than the Grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer. Being a brand-new model, the Wagoneer S will boast the latest technologies and design features that Jeep has to offer. In the UAE, it can be compared with EVs like the BMW iX, Audi e-tron, and Tesla Model X.

    Variants & Price

The new Jeep Wagoneer S in the U.S. market starts from USD 70,795 (or appx. AED 260,000). Of course, the model that reaches the shores of the UAE will be far pricier than this. It is unclear if the UAE will also get the Launch Edition as its first variant of the Wagoneer S – like it is in the States.

There are likely to be more variants available in the Emirates, across various price points. This will make the Jeep Wagoneer S more attractive to a wider set of buyers. Jeep UAE could price the new Wagoneer S from around AED 300,000 – considerably more affordable than the flagship Grand Wagoneer.

    Exterior

Being an EV means the Wagoneer S doesn’t require a traditional front intake for extra air/cooling. This has allowed Jeep to revise its iconic seven-slot grille, which now features an enclosed 3D design with fancy LED illumination. A svelte LED bar is merged with the DRLs of the sleek LED headlights, whilst the lower air intake sports LED foglights.

The rear of the Wagoneer S gets a full-width LED bar, too. A cool feature here is the large spoiler that projects outwards considerably – creating a hollow space in between for air to flow through. There is a secondary but smaller spoiler on the tailgate, enhancing the aerodynamic efficiency and sportiness of the design. The sleek side profile boosts efficiency, too.

The Wagoneer S looks planted and sporty even when still. The Launch Edition gets 20-inch gloss black wheels along with a lot more gloss black exterior trim. These accentuate the car’s modern and sophisticated look quite nicely. The swooping roofline, electrically-operated door handles, squared wheel arches, and contrasting exterior finish add to the appeal of the Jeep Wagoneer S.

    Interior

The premium interior of the Wagoneer S tries to blend sophisticated elegance with tangible quality and technological modernity. There is high-quality but synthetic non-leather upholstery, plus microfiber suede on the A-pillars & roof-lining. There’s ceramic-coated aluminum, piano black, die-cast zinc metal, and eco-friendly recycled materials. The dashboard and center console look clean with minimal physical buttons – four touchscreens dominate this area.

The 10.25-inch front-passenger screen can be utilized as a secondary infotainment unit. The main 12.3-inch touchscreen looks sharp and high-definition, housing a plethora of functionalities and features. It’s flanked on both sides by a few shortcut buttons (volume control, scroll dial, seat ventilation & heating, etc.). Most of these buttons are of the capacitive-touch type.

There’s a dedicated touchscreen for the HVAC system and seat functions, requiring you to take your eyes off the road. The 12.3-inch digital driver’s display packs plenty of information and looks fairly clutter-free. The ‘Wagoneer’ branded two-spoke steering wheel has flat top & bottom portions and a special anti-microbial coating. The interior can feature a customizable 64-color LED mood lighting package.

It also gets wireless phone charging, a 19-speaker McIntosh premium audio system, and a Uconnect 5 infotainment system. The latter can receive OTA updates and integrates wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. The Wagoneer S has a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, front & rear USB ports, a hands-free tailgate, etc.

    Engine and performance

The new Jeep Wagoneer S is powered by two synchronous electric motors – one on each axle – meaning four-wheel drive. To improve efficiency and performance, the electric drive modules (EDMs) have their power electronics and motors housed inside compact structures. Moreover, the front EDM of the Wagoneer S has a ‘wheels disconnect’ feature to reduce energy consumption when cruising/coasting.

The Jeep Wagoneer S has a combined output of 600 hp and around 837 Nm of torque. This, plus the four-wheel-drive traction, enables the electric SUV to propel itself from 0-60 mph (0-96 kmph) in 3.4 seconds. Meanwhile, the top speed is expected to be around 200 kmph. However, the 100 kWh battery pack runs on a relatively-traditional 400-volt architecture.

Jeep claims that the Wagoneer S can be charged from 20-80 percent in 23 minutes using a DC fast charger. In the U.S., customers can charge this SUV using 48-amp Level 2 charging outlets as well. Jeep also claims that the maximum range of its new Wagoneer S is 300 miles (appx. 483 km).

    Safety

The Jeep Wagoneer S gets multiple active driver aids. These include adaptive cruise control, collision detection, auto-emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, active lane management, driver drowsiness detection, traffic-sign recognition, etc. The Wagoneer S also benefits from 360-degree cameras, front & rear parking sensors, and available autonomous parking facility. There are multiple airbags, traction & stability programs, hill-hold assist, etc., too.

    Conclusion

With the new Wagoneer S, Jeep is stepping into EV territory. While this is a bold move, the brand isn’t letting go of its successful ICE vehicles yet. The Wagoneer S offers buyers a good-looking compact SUV with a large boot, spacious & upscale cabin, plus good performance.

The Jeep brand is quite well-regarded in the UAE, but it isn’t in the same “luxury” league as Lincoln or Cadillac. If it can offer around 400 kms of range and is priced under 350-375,000 dirhams, the Jeep Wagoneer S would be hard to ignore.
