The EcoSport helped Ford to strengthen its grasp in the market, especially in the compact SUV category. It received an overwhelming response from the people only not here in the Middle East, but in other markets as well. Ford played its masterstroke with the EcoSport. 1. Engine and performance

Ford offers the EcoSport with only a single engine option here in the UAE. It is a 1.5-litre, Ti-VCT, inline 4-cylinder unit, that has been tuned to produce a maximum power of 112 PS at 6,300 RPM and generates 140 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 RPM. It is a peppy engine which has got more than enough juice to get this SUV up and going. It has fewer vibrations due to its inline 4-cylinder layout, therefore it offers a smooth drive quality.

Another factor that adds to the better driveability is the 6-speed PowerShift automatic transmission. Ford has managed to find the perfect balance between comfort and performance. 2. Looks and Styling

Although this is a very subjective category, Ford has done so well with the EcoSport that it would not have been fair if we did not mention it. The EcoSport has got this SUV-ish stance and appearance. Its headlights are sharp, joined by very subtle chrome lines with Ford’s logo in the middle. The trapezoidal front grille too has a nice use of chrome at its border. It is tall from every angle, and everything seems to be in proportion.

Obviously, it is not a full-fledged SUV, not even meant to be one, but it still gives you a lot of confidence on the road because of the higher driving position. It is not that intimidating, but it is not a slouch either. It is much better than a typical sedan any day.

3. Interior and features

Ford did not go overboard with the interior of the EcoSport. It kept it simple yet engaging. The black and silver theme is modern and sporty. The centre console is nice and large with silver finishing. Below it sits controls for the air-conditioning. And these are surrounded by a glossy black finish, that contrasts the silver trim of the centre console.

The steering wheel has got controls for the audio. You can also see the use of silver on here, and on the instrument console, which looks super cool. The EcoSport can comfortably accommodate five occupants without any fuss. The cabin feels large and roomy.

The other thing that is interesting in the EcoSport is Ford’s SYNC technology. It can understand a few voice commands, and perform those functions. Once you connect your smartphone to it, you can make calls using the voice commands. You can also play around with the music without lifting your hands off the steering wheel.
