Detailed Review on MG 7

MG Motor is one of the most successful Chinese-owned car brands in the Middle East. The brand offers a wide range of cars that includes hatchbacks, SUVs, a pickup truck, EVs, and sedans. While the market dynamics have been preferential towards sport utility vehicles, the era of the sedan hasn’t vanished entirely.

The new MG 7 is one such example of some carmakers keeping the sedan alive even in 2025. Launched in the UAE in 2024, the MG 7 is the brand’s most premium sedan model in the region. Positioned above the MG GT, the new 7 competes with the entry-level variants of the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Kia K5, etc.

 

Variants & Price

Those looking to buy a new MG 7 in the UAE should head out to the nearest Inter Emirates Motors showroom. As the brand’s exclusive distributor in the country, you will find all MG cars on sale at their dealerships. Meanwhile, the new MG 7 sedan costs from approximately AED 82,000 to AED 112,000 (incl. VAT).

There are four variants of the MG 7: STD, DEL, COM, and LUX. Regardless of which variant of the MG 7 you pick, all come with a 6-year/200,000 km manufacturer’s warranty. The entry-level cars with the 1.5T engine are cheaper, whilst those with the punchier 2.0T engine cost more. However, the latter can be pricier than better-established and reputed brands.

Exterior

The exterior of the MG 7 is one of its most promising features – it is an eye-catching design for sure. The fastback styling with the svelte curves and large 19-inch alloy wheels stands out quite effortlessly. Then there are the unique design bits such as the quad exhaust tips, an active rear spoiler, and frameless doors.

The steeply-sloped hood and crisp bodylines accentuate the sportiness of the MG 7, whilst the sharp headlights look expensive. These LED units come with unique T-shaped daytime running lights, adding to this MG’s design language. Apart from the massive exhaust cans, sleek LED taillights really brighten up the rear of the MG 7.

If you wish to stand out further, pick either the Emerald Green or Bordeaux Red colors. While it isn’t as long as the Honda Accord, the MG 7 is wider and sits lower. As for the specifics, the new MG 7 is 4,884 mm long, 1,889 mm wide, and 1,447 mm tall. The sporty-looking sedan has a wheelbase of 2,830 mm.

Interior

Let’s now focus our attention on where you’ll spend most of your time, on the inside. The MG 7’s interior presents a sporty and cozy vibe without feeling too cramped or unusable. The seats look and feel great, offering enough under-thigh cushioning and overall comfort. However, the chunkiness of the front ‘Racing’ seats with their integrated headrests could reduce forward visibility for the rear occupants.

Similarly, the sloping roof and inward curving body of the MG 7 can make seating three in the back a bit challenging. The two-tone cabin can be optioned in blue & black or red & black, where the latter feels far sportier. Letting in light and extra breeze through the roof is a dual-pane panoramic sunroof.

Ventilating the cabin better is a dual-zone climate control system with rear vents, while LED ambient lighting is offered too. The MG 7 also gets leather upholstery, powered front seats, a 9-speaker Bose audio system, wireless charging, and paddle shifters. There’s a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, and a ‘Super Sport’ button on the steering wheel.

The interior of the MG 7 not only looks sporty and premium but also feels well-built. There are no obvious rattles or squeaks either, which only adds to the upmarket ambiance of this interior. The infotainment system works well and is quite responsive, but the whole panel is surrounded by really thick bezels. Overall, this is a modern and youthful interior.

Engine and performance

The new MG 7 sedan is offered with two turbocharged petrol engines in the UAE. The lower STD and DEL variants are powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder that outputs a maximum of 188 hp and 300 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the COM and LUX variants utilize a 2.0-liter four-banger that produces up to 261 hp and 405 Nm.

The MG 7 1.5T is equipped with a 7-speed DCT, while the MG 7 2.0T has a 9-speed automatic gearbox. While both these versions drive the front wheels, the smaller engine still manages a top speed of 210 kmph. The stronger 2.0-liter motor, meanwhile, allows a top speed of 230 kmph and a 0-100 kmph time of 6.5 seconds.

Of course, these nicer performance numbers come at the cost of lower fuel efficiency – the 2.0T barely manages 16.9 kmpl. As for the 1.5T model, its fuel efficiency is slightly better, rated at 19.3 kmpl. The MG 7 comes fitted with fully independent front & rear suspension, providing a decent ride without compromising high-speed stability.

Safety

Like many of its new cars, MG Motor hasn’t skimped on the safety features of the MG 7. It gets up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, vehicle dynamic control, electronic stability control, and hill-hold control. The list is further strengthened by active rollover protection, tire-pressure monitoring, 360-degree cameras, brake-disc wiping, and rear parking sensors.

The new MG 7 can be had with adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and emergency lane-keeping. There’s also a rear defogger, front & rear foglamps, an auto-dimming IRVM, automatic LED headlights with ‘Intelligent Headlamp Control, etc.

Conclusion

If you wish to own something rarer than a Camry or an Accord, you can consider the new MG 7. Its “look at me” design will draw attention even amongst a crowd of more expensive midsize sedans. Its sporty interior feels lavish enough for the price, but it fits the bill for a car aimed mostly at a fashionable audience.

However, the MG 7 is a new car, and therefore, its long-term reliability remains relatively unknown. Needless to say, the long warranty should ensure most owners will not have to worry too much. Then there are its punchy turbo-petrol engines that make this quite a quick car for the money.
