How many variants are there in the Toyota Yaris?

Based on the DNGA-B platform of Toyota’s subsidiary company Daihatsu, the fourth-generation Toyota Yaris, which made its debut in 2022, is currently being offered in the UAE car market in two variants – E AT and G AT. Both these variants get the same petrol-automatic powertrain but are differentiated based on features offered in them.

There are two variants of the Toyota Yaris on sale in the UAE – E AT and G AT. While the prices of Toyota Yaris E AT start at AED 63,900, the Toyota Yaris G AT is priced at AED 73,900.

Which is the most value-for-money variant of the Toyota Yaris?

Among the two variants of the Toyota Yaris available in the UAE, we do believe that it is the higher-spec G AT variant which is worth the extra features it gets over the base-spec E AT. The more-premium G AT variant of the Toyota Yaris gets features like leather upholstery, automatic climate control, a TFT instrument console, push start-stop button, additional speakers, LED tail lamps, and ADAS suite of safety features, all of which combine to make the G AT variant the worthier variant of the two. 

What features does the Toyota Yaris get?

In this fourth-generation avatar, the new Toyota Yaris has become a sleeker and more stylish car than its predecessor. Both the variants of the Toyota Yaris on sale in the UAE have body-coloured door handles and mirrors, LED headlamps with daytime running LEDs and electrically adjustable and foldable outside rearview mirrors. The more-premium G AT variant further features LED tail lamps, 16-inch machined alloy wheels and turn indicators on ORVMs. 

On the inside, both the variants of the Toyota Yaris have dual-tone black and beige upholstery, with them having features like rear AC vents, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four speakers, and steering-mounted audio and Bluetooth controls. The G AT variant gets more goodies like automatic climate control, engine push start-stop button, 7-inch TFT instrument console, leather-wrapped steering wheel, electronic parking brake, two additional speakers, and rear USB charging sockets. 

How spacious is it?

The Toyota Yaris has always been known as a spacious and comfortable car, making it a perfect choice for first-time family-oriented car buyers. This new fourth-generation Toyota Yaris follows the suite with a spacious cabin with ample knee room, headroom, and shoulder room, thanks to its nicely proportioned design. The Yaris measures 4,425mm long, 1,740mm wide, and 1,480mm tall while having a generous wheelbase of 2,620mm.

What engine and transmission options are available?

Both the variants of the Toyota Yaris feature a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine as standard, which has been retained from the previous-generation iteration of the sedan. This engine is being offered with a CVT gearbox in both variants and claims a maximum power output of 105 PS and a peak torque output of 138 Nm.

What’s the mileage of the Toyota Yaris?

The powertrain combination of a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine and a CVT gearbox offered in both the variants of the Toyota Yaris claims a maximum fuel efficiency of 20.5 kmpl. This figure makes it one of the most fuel-efficient compact sedans on sale in the UAE, making it a perfect choice for efficiency-centric buyers. 

How safe is the Toyota Yaris?

The standard safety features offered in both E AT and G AT variants of the Toyota Yaris include an emergency-call system, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, pedal misoperation control, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, vehicle stability control, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, rear fog lamps and reverse parking sensors. The higher-spec G AT variant further gets additional features like reverse camera, auto brake hold, side and curtain airbags and ADAS features like adaptive cruise control, front departure alert, lane departure warning, and prevention and pre-collision warning. 

How many colour options are there?

The five colour options which are offered in both variants of the Toyota Yaris are Scarlet, Platinum White Pearl Mica, Metal Stream, Red, and Grey Metallic. In addition, the base-spec E AT variant is also offered with an Attitude Black colour option.

Should you buy the 2024 Toyota Yaris?

The Toyota Yaris has always had a solid reputation for being a supremely reliable car offering impressive efficiency and comfort levels, making it a no-brainer choice for first-time buyers. However, this new fourth-generation Yaris now also offers the additional essence of premium appeal inside-out, which somehow was lacking in the previous-generation buyers, while retaining its traditional virtues.

The sleek exterior styling and the decently equipped and nicely-designed cabin of the new fourth-generation Toyota Yaris do give it an upmarket appeal. Additionally, the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre petrol engine-CVT combination retained from the previous Yaris makes it an efficient sedan, which is smooth and refined to drive. Even the back seat comfort is appreciable too, though we would have loved to see more new-age comfort and convenience features in the cabin.

What are my alternatives?

In this new fourth-generation version, the Toyota Yaris continues to compete with its traditional rivals like the Hyundai Accent, Nissan Sunny, Honda City, Suzuki Ciaz, and Kia Rio Sedan. Among these, the Accent was also updated in the same timeframe as the Yaris, making it an equally newer car. There are some Chinese alternative sedans for the Toyota Yaris, like MG GT, Changan Eado Plus, Kaiyi E5, and GAC GA4.

Other things to consider

The growing popularity of the compact SUVs has resulted in a drop in the demand for sedans. However, newer offerings like the Toyota Yaris and Hyundai Accent have brought customer interest back in the compact sedan segment. However, if you are someone who prefers the taller ride height and ground clearance of SUVs, you can look out for a range of compact SUVs.
