Renault Captur Expert Review
The Renault Captur is one of the popular compact two-row SUVs from the French car giant. Featuring a five-seat configuration, this compact model is offered in three variants-PE, SE and LE with a single petrol engine, a 1.6-litre unit which is linked to a CVT gearbox. The Renault Captur can be had in ten vibrant colour options including Atacama Orange, ocean blue, smokey navy blue, pearl white, Ivory, flame red, mercury, oyster grey, cappuccino brown and starry black. All these paint options are available with contrasting starry black roof save for the black shade which gets mercury roof. Customers can choose from a host of other colour options for roof as per their taste. One must note, the dual-tone colours can be availed only with the top-spec LE variant, while the lower-spec grades come only in a single-tone option.
Talking in terms of proportions, this five-seater model is 4,122 mm long, 1,770 mm wide (without mirrors), 2,031 mm high (with tailgate open) and has a laden ground clearance of 170 mm. The front overhang is longer at 866 mm as compared to the rear one at 650 mm. It sits on a 2,606 mm long wheelbase, with decent space for occupants seated in front and rear rows. The grille in front gets chrome detailing in the higher variants which is replaced by black bits in the lower grades. A large Renault logo is embossed in the centre, while the chrome surround on the lower side of the grille is standard. Also, there are pulled back projector headlamps with C-shaped LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps and silver-finished undertray. Body cladding further accentuates the SUV-ish character, while roof rails and dual-tone colour scheme add to the sporty flair. At the sides, it equips power-folding outside rearview mirrors with integrated turn signals and 16-inch alloy wheels that are available in different finishing. Moving to the rear, it gets integrated spoiler, raked-in windshield, split tail-lamps, single exhaust and bold chrome trim on the boot lid.
On the inside, the five-seater compact SUV sports a dual-tone colour theme with silver trim around some parts of the cabin. The dashboard has a chunky design and the quality of plastic, fit and finish don’t seem to be on par with other models in the segment. The cargo space on this two-row model is 377-litres with second row in use which can be increased to 1,235-litres by folding the rear seats completely. Feature list layered inside starts with the Bose premium audio system, a 7-inch R-Link touchscreen system, Android Auto, USB port, Aux-In, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise controls, power windows in front and rear, etc.
Under the hood, the Renault Captur comes with a single 1.6-litre petrol engine with 115 hp power at 5,500 rpm against 156 Nm torque at 4000 rpm. This unit is supported by an X-tronic CVT automatic gearbox. It equips disc brakes at the front axle, while rear gets drum units. Multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, engine immoblizer, ISOFIX mounts, seatbelt reminders, hill start assist, electronic stability program, cornering lights are some of the prominent safety bits offered with the SUV.
