Nissan Urvan

Like the exterior of the Nissan Urvan, its interior is also having a functional layout, with the cabin having a simple dual-tone black and grey scheme for the dashboard. While it looks bare-bones in the Van versions, there are some essentials in the Bus version, making it a decently-equipped people mover.

The Nissan Urvan gets a three-spoke steering wheel with a large triangular centre boss, which along with an all-analogue instrument console, completes the driver’s cockpit. The centre console has a wide and busy design in the Nissan Urvan, with the upper half having a 2-DIN audio system and rounded AC vents on its sides, while the lower half has separate housings for the transmission lever and climate control switches placed beside each other. In both cargo van and bus versions, the Nissan Urvan comes with rear AC vents, a pull-back manual handbrake lever, a lower centre tray and keyless entry.

The Nissan Urvan has remained unchanged for many years now, and in this iteration in which it exists currently, it has started looking a bit dated amidst the arrival of newer rivals. However, it still has a decent road presence and design, which does the job.

The Nissan Urvan has a good-looking front fascia comprising of a wide front grille following the V-Motion design language of Nissan. With a trapezoidal chrome bordering and a thick slat of chrome above it, the grille has large-sized trapezoidal halogen headlamps on either side. While the cargo van versions come with the utilitarian-looking black front bumper, the Bus version gets the same bumper painted in body colour.

The side profile of the Nissan Urvan looks very functional, with a clean design for the front door panels and the sliding door, which is available only on the co-driver side. There are noticeable curves over the front and rear fenders, while the Nissan Urvan comes with basic-looking blacked-out door handles and plastic wheel caps over the steel wheels. In the Bus version, the Nissan Urvan gets large-sized window panels, while the Panel version misses out on them.

At the back, the Nissan Urvan features a very basic and dated design, comprising a large windscreen with a slightly curved lower edge covering its upper half. The lower half of the Nissan Urvan gets vertically-aligned halogen tail lamps on the outer edges and a trapezoidal housing for the license plate with a black garnish above it.

With a torsion bar and stabilizer at the front and a rigid bar with leaf springs at the rear, the ride setup of the Nissan Urvan is more inclined toward ruggedness over comfort. The vehicle feels planted and durable on rough surfaces but can be harsh, with not much plushness in its ride quality.

The only engine with which the UAE-spec Nissan Urvan is available is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which is offered with both 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmissions. In the Nissan Urvan, this engine is rated to produce a maximum power output of 149 bhp and a maximum torque output of 213 Nm – decent figures for a commercial vehicle of this size.

The bare-basic safety equipment list of the Nissan Urvan includes keyless entry, rear fog lamps, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and vehicle dynamic control.

While the Nissan Urvan is not much equipped in terms of appeal and has a dated appeal in its overall design, which has remained unchanged for years now, it scores high on reliability and ruggedness in its overall build quality and performance of its mechanical setup, including its engine and suspension.
