MG 6 Expert Review

Positioned above the MG 5, the MG 6 sedan offers a much more contemporary and sleeker-looking package, which offers a much more premium experience. The MG 6, with a turbo petrol mill as the only engine option, is available in a single fully-loaded variant, with two upholstery options.

MG 6 Interior & Features

The MG 6 carries forward the same sense of sophistication and subtlety of the exterior in the cabin as well. The overall layout too isn’t something which looks jaw-dropping good, but the choice of materials and uniformity in its design makes it look and feel premium.

The flat-bottom steering wheel has a nice silver finish in the lower centre, while the instrument console, despite having a staid layout inside it, looks great with a chrome surround on its outer boundaries.

The centre console looks quite big and wide, thanks to a huge 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple Carplay. The sleek AC vents above the infotainment system and sleek looking array of buttons make this centre console look very much modern.

MG offers the interior cabin of the 6 sedan in a choice of two upholstery options – black and beige or black and pink – both of which look great. Apart from that, the MG 6 has got all the premium features that match its sophisticated aura, like a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, push-button start with keyless entry, electric parking brake and many more. With almost 22 small storage spaces inside the cabin, 424 litres of boot space and sufficient space management, the MG 6 is quite practical.

6 Exterior

While the overall design of the MG 6 isn’t something which we call revolutionary, it does look pleasant and stylish, with a curvy appeal to it.

The front fascia of the MG 6 shares a lot with the MG ZS SUV, which is quite evident with the ‘Star Rider’ grille flanked with wing-like headlamps having LED projectors and daytime running lamps within them. The bumper too looks sporty, thanks to stretched C-shaped chrome inserts for fog lamps and a long silver lip spoiler.

The side profile of the MG 6 looks quite athletic and it is all down due to the large 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a coupe-like roofline and a smooth curve flowing straight from the front end to rear.

The sloping roofline ends up flowing smoothly towards the boot lid, which has a neat layout with large wing-like LED tail lamps adjoined by a thin strip of chrome. The dual exhaust ports on both sides of the silver skid plate have nice chrome garnish around them.

MG 6 Ride & Handling

The grand touring essence of the MG 6 can be felt in the way it drives as well, as the sedan feels planted and spirited in the way it drives. The suspension, being slightly on the firmer side, feels a bit stiff over broken patches, but then, this very setup makes it feel sure-footed around corners. The steering, however, is the loose point here, as it does not have the precision of the rest of the package.

6 Engine & Fuel Consumption

The MG 6 has got quite a technically advanced powertrain under its hood – a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The engine churns out a healthy 170 PS of maximum power, which is enough of propelling it to 100 kmph from standstill in just seven seconds. Despite this thrilling performance level, the engine is capable of returning a fuel economy of 17.2 kmpl.

MG 6 Braking & Safety

The MG 6 covers up all the basics of safety like airbags all around, ABS with EBD, brake assist, electric parking brake, front and rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera and tire pressure monitoring system.

6 Verdict

The MG 6, for the price at which it is being offered, is a great package, considering how balanced and beautifully it is designed in and out. Apart from the styling, the powertrain is the star of this sedan, which offers excellent performance, something which is complemented with the smooth gearbox. The nice ride and handling balance further makes the MG 6 one of the nicest cars to drive.
