JAC J7 Overview
What is the price of the JAC J7 in the UAE?
Available in a single variant, the JAC J7 is priced at AED 72,000 for all four colour options in which it is available.
How many variants of the JAC J7 are available in the UAE?
The JAC J7 is being offered in a single fully loaded Intelligent AT variant, which is solely available with a petrol-automatic powertrain option.
Which variant of the JAC J7 offers the best value?
Since it is available in a single Intelligent AT variant, that’s the only option you have to consider if you are willing to buy the JAC J7. However, at this price, the J7 undercuts many of the similarly-sized sedans which offer equipment levels as decent as the J7 at relatively higher prices.
What are the key features of the JAC J7?
The JAC J7 has a sleek design with a fastback-inspired look on the outside, where this sedan gets LED headlamps with daytime running LEDs over them. The central fascia of the car has a hexagonal grille with chrome surrounds and vertical chrome slats.
The side profile of the JAC J7 has premium-looking 17-inch machined alloy wheels and dual-tone treatment, with the roof and rearview mirrors finished in contrast blacked-out theme. The J7 also gets LED tail lamps, rear fog lamps, auto lighting height-adjustable headlamps with follow-me-home function, and power-adjustable and foldable rearview mirrors.
Finished in a dual-tone brown and grey theme, the cabin of the JAC J7 has decent features, with the sedan having a conventional instrument console behind the tilt-adjustable multi-functional steering wheel. The J7 also has front and rear centre armrests, leather seats, height adjustment for the driver’s seat, 60:40 split folding rear seats, a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, front and rear USB ports, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a sunroof, a 6-speaker audio system, and engine push start-stop button.
Is the JAC J7 spacious?
With a length of 4,722 mm, a width of 1,820 mm, and a height of 1,490 mm, the JAC J7 is one of the largest-sized cars in its segment, making it one size above the other similarly-priced compact sedans in its category. The long wheelbase of 2,760mm gives it commendable legroom and knee room, with the J7 also having appreciable shoulder room. However, the sloping roofline eats up some headroom for rear seat occupants. The JAC J7 also has a humongous 520-litre boot space, which is expandable up to 1,510 litres after folding down the 60:40 split seats.
What are the engine and transmission options for the JAC J7?
The only engine option that is available in the JAC J7 for the UAE car market is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which claims a maximum power output of 150 PS and a maximum torque output of 210 Nm.
This is one of the few turbocharged petrol engines available at its price, where most of the rivals are offering traditional naturally-aspirated petrol engines. These figures do make the JAC J7 the most powerful sedan in its class, on paper. The top speed of the JAC J7 is rated at 170 kmph. This engine is paired with an easy-to-use CVT gearbox.
What is the fuel efficiency of the JAC J7?
The JAC J7 offers a claimed maximum fuel efficiency of 16.4 km/L, showcasing its potential for economical driving under ideal conditions. However, in real-world urban settings, particularly in environments with consistent traffic and stop-and-go driving, the fuel efficiency typically ranges between 12-13 km/L. This variance reflects the impact of urban driving factors like frequent braking, idling, and acceleration on fuel consumption.
On highways or open roads, the J7 is more likely to approach its claimed figure, leveraging its efficient powertrain to deliver better mileage. This balance of performance makes the JAC J7 a practical option for drivers seeking a blend of fuel economy and versatility, particularly for those whose usage includes both city commutes and longer journeys. While urban efficiency is slightly lower, the J7 still holds its own within its segment, offering competitive mileage for a compact sedan.
What safety features do the JAC J7 offer?
Like many other sedans at its price, the JAC J7 also misses out on a radar-controlled suite of ADAS features. However, the J7 covers the basics like dual front and side airbags, height adjustable seat belts, tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill start assist, brake assist, reverse parking sensors and reverse camera. The sedan also has cruise control and electronic parking brake as more premium safety features. As an advantage and upper hand over its competition, we would have loved to see more advanced ADAS features in the J7.
What colour options are available for the JAC J7?
The JAC J7 is available in five colour options for the UAE car market – red, blue, white, black and grey. Except black, all these colour options are available in the dual-tone theme, with the rearview mirrors and roof painted in contrast black colour.
Is the JAC J7 worth buying?
Compared to all of its direct rivals priced similarly to it, the JAC J7 offers the feels, space, and comfort levels of a larger-sized car. The performance of the turbo-petrol engine might feel superior on paper, but in the real world, it matches those of the naturally aspirated engines offered by its Japanese competitors. With decent features and comfort, convenience, and safety essentials, the JAC J7 is a good value-for-money choice.
What are the alternatives to the JAC J7?
The JAC J7 competes with some of the most popular and entry-level compact sedans, primarily from Japanese brands. The list of direct rivals to the JAC J7 includes Toyota Yaris, Nissan Sunny, Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, and Geely Emgrand. One can also look at the host of entry-level compact SUVs at this price, which offer a more commanding seating posture and higher ground clearance, but do fall short on space levels and comfort offered by a traditional sedan at this price.
What else should you know about the JAC J7?
Competing against some of the most established Japanese sedans that have a long-standing legacy and proven track record, the JAC J7 has a tough hill to climb. With little-known expertise, the JAC J7 doesn’t offer the finesse, quality, and after-sales experience as its Japanese rivals. For a more reassuring peace of mind, the Japanese rivals of the JAC J7 do make a more preferable purchase case.

Abhishek Katariya says
The JAC J7 is the only premium sedan available from the Chinese car maker JAC and is positioned as a premium compact sedan. With a touch of fastback essence in its design, the JAC J7 features a dynamic design and a turbocharged petrol engine, making it a good alternative to other premium compact sedans. The JAC J7 is being offered in a single variant, with the colour options like white, grey, black, red and blue.
JAC J7 Interior & Features
The overall interior of the JAC J7 looks simple and clean but is high on technology. There are a host of features that make the J7 truly a car of this day and age.
The J7 has a simple-looking three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with silver accents below the spokes. Behind this steering wheel is a full-TFT instrument console, which comes with multiple colour options for the display. The middle layer of the dashboard has trapezoidal AC vents on the sides of the touchscreen infotainment system and the corners of the dashboard.
The centre console is dominated by a large 10.4-inch portrait-style touchscreen for the infotainment system, with integrated AC controls, which are hard to operate while driving on the road. The premium feels in the cabin are further ensured by additional comfort and convenience features like a single-pane sunroof, unique breathing ambient lighting, cruise control, leatherette upholstery and auto AC with rear AC vents.
J7 Exterior
The JAC J7 is one of those modern-day sedans, which are trying to attract younger audiences with the way they have been designed. The sedan has a touch of a fastback in its design towards the rear, which makes it look eye-catching and premium.
At the front, the JAC J7 has a hexagonal grille with chrome surrounds and vertical chrome slats, with the upper edges having sweptback, slim, wing-shaped headlamp clusters having dual LED projectors and slim daytime running LEDs on their upper edges. The front bumper also has gloss black C-shaped faux air vents on the lower corners and a trapezoidal air dam in the lower central part.
The main visual drama in the design of the JAC J7 is evident in the side profile, with the car having a slightly sharp-raked roofline towards the rear, giving it an essence of a fastback. The window waistline has chrome garnish, which flows towards the C-pillar and extends to the sides of the boot lid at the back. The 17-inch machined alloy wheels and a sharp crease flowing through the door panels add more athleticism to the design.
At the back, the JAC J7 has a wide tail lamp cluster with LED combination lamps on the outer edges and an LED light bar on the boot lid which connects the tail lamps. There are additional lamps placed on the lower corners of the rear bumper. The J7 also has dual exhaust ports, with one placed on each corner of the lower bumper garnish.
JAC J7 Ride & Handling
Apart from giving it a dynamic visual appeal, the fastback touch in the design of the JAC J7 also makes it more aerodynamic, which aids in its driving dynamics. With a suspension combination comprising of independent Macpherson struts at the front and independent multi-link at the rear, the JAC J7 feels sure-footed at higher speeds, while offering a comfortable ride quality to the occupants seated inside.
J7 Engine & Fuel Consumption
There is only one engine option available in the JAC J7, which is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine mated to a CVT gearbox. This engine delivers a maximum power output of 150 PS, while the peak torque output is 210 Nm. The J7 has a claimed top speed of 170 kmph.
JAC J7 Braking & Safety
The list of safety features offered in the JAC J7 as standard are front and side airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, brake assist, hill start assist and reverse parking sensors and camera.
J7 Verdict
While the overall fastback-inspired design of the JAC J7 is its major highlight, the sedan impresses with its powerful petrol engine and composed ride quality, making it a worthy option to consider.
