The JAC J7 has a sleek design with a fastback-inspired look on the outside, where this sedan gets LED headlamps with daytime running LEDs over them. The central fascia of the car has a hexagonal grille with chrome surrounds and vertical chrome slats.

The side profile of the JAC J7 has premium-looking 17-inch machined alloy wheels and dual-tone treatment, with the roof and rearview mirrors finished in contrast blacked-out theme. The J7 also gets LED tail lamps, rear fog lamps, auto lighting height-adjustable headlamps with follow-me-home function, and power-adjustable and foldable rearview mirrors.

The long wheelbase of 2,760mm gives it commendable legroom and knee room, with the J7 also having appreciable shoulder room. However, the sloping roofline eats up some headroom for rear seat occupants. The JAC J7 also has a humongous 520-litre boot space, which is expandable up to 1,510 litres after folding down the 60:40 split seats. 

What are the engine and transmission options for the JAC J7?

The only engine option that is available in the JAC J7 for the UAE car market is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which claims a maximum power output of 150 PS and a maximum torque output of 210 Nm.

This is one of the few turbocharged petrol engines available at its price, where most of the rivals are offering traditional naturally-aspirated petrol engines. These figures do make the JAC J7 the most powerful sedan in its class, on paper. The top speed of the JAC J7 is rated at 170 kmph. This engine is paired with an easy-to-use CVT gearbox.

Like many other sedans at its price, the JAC J7 also misses out on a radar-controlled suite of ADAS features. However, the J7 covers the basics like dual front and side airbags, height adjustable seat belts, tyre pressure monitoring system, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill start assist, brake assist, reverse parking sensors and reverse camera. The sedan also has cruise control and electronic parking brake as more premium safety features. As an advantage and upper hand over its competition, we would have loved to see more advanced ADAS features in the J7.

The JAC J7 is available in five colour options for the UAE car market – red, blue, white, black and grey. Except black, all these colour options are available in the dual-tone theme, with the rearview mirrors and roof painted in contrast black colour. 

Is the JAC J7 worth buying?

Compared to all of its direct rivals priced similarly to it, the JAC J7 offers the feels, space, and comfort levels of a larger-sized car. The performance of the turbo-petrol engine might feel superior on paper, but in the real world, it matches those of the naturally aspirated engines offered by its Japanese competitors. With decent features and comfort, convenience, and safety essentials, the JAC J7 is a good value-for-money choice.

The JAC J7 competes with some of the most popular and entry-level compact sedans, primarily from Japanese brands.
