Audi A5 Sportback

Sharing its cabin layout with the A4 sedan, the interior of the Audi A5 Sportback is offered with dual-tone black and brown leather upholstery as standard for the UAE-spec variant. The cabin is wrapped with high-quality Nappa leather upholstery for the seats, upper dashboard layer and door panel, with the contrast gloss black and brushed aluminium inserts at places uplifting the overall premium appeal of the cabin here.

Behind the three-spoke round-themed multi-functional steering wheel with chrome inserts, the Audi A5 Sportback has a wide and very informative virtual cockpit plus an instrument console, with the car also available with an optional head-up display. The centre console has a large, standalone 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which controls all the audio and MMI interface functions of the Audi A5 Sportback.

The middle layer of the dashboard of the Audi A5 Sportback has a sleek chrome strip running across its width, with the middle of the centre console having sleek and wide AC vents. The lower centre console has trapezoidal panels for the controls of three-zone auto AC and audio buttons. The transmission tunnel running between the front seats further accommodates the transmission lever, cup holders, electronic parking brake and wireless charging pad.

While the Audi A5 Sportback is based on the A4 sedan platform, it gets a more distinctive styling on the outside, which makes it look like an altogether different model. Compared to the two-door A5 Coupe, the Audi A5 Sportback has a more conventional four-door design, though with a sloping roofline, it retains the stylish appearance of the coupe version.

At the front, the Audi A5 Sportback has a large hexagonal grille in the middle, which has dark chrome surrounds and a hexagonal mesh design on the inside. The headlamps on the sides have curved upper edges, and come with all-LED lighting with dynamic LED DRLs. Audi is also offering the option of more premium Matrix LED headlamps with laser lights for an added cost. The rounded fog lamps on the corners of the dashboard have busy-looking housings, with trapezoidal dark chrome surrounds and large faux air dams.

The Audi A5 Sportback has a stylish look when viewed from the side, the credits for which go to the sloping roofline and frameless doors, with the front doors having rearview mirrors mounted on them. There is a sharp crease running sideways, which has a curved look over the front and rear fenders and a straight-line look over the side door panels. The Audi A5 Sportback has 19-inch alloy wheels as standard, though the optional S Line treatment brings more dynamic-looking 20-inch alloy wheels to the car.

At the back, Audi is offering a set of trapezoidal combination LED tail lamps with tapered inner edges to the rear profile of the A5 Sportback. With a highly raked rear windscreen and sloping roofline, the Audi A5 Sportback has a traditional coupe flair, while the boot lid looks more or less like that of the other Audi sedans. The gloss black rear diffuser has chrome surrounds for the angular exhaust ports.

While the Audi A5 Sportback misses out on Quattro all-wheel-drive technology, it does come with the dynamic steering setup, which adjusts the steering ratio and steering force depending on the vehicle speed. The Audi drive select with multiple drive modes further strengthens the vehicle’s dynamic prowess.

The Audi A5 Sportback shares its 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with the Audi A4 sedan. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, this engine delivers 250 PS of maximum power and 370 Nm of maximum torque. With this engine, the Audi A5 Sportback claims a top speed of 250 kmph and a 0-100 kmph run timing of 6 seconds.

The Audi A5 Sportback gets several safety features, with the standard variant of the model featuring six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, lane departure warning and assist, rear-cross traffic alert, blind spot monitor, front collision warning and assist, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, hill descent control system, auto park, and lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring.

The Audi A5 Sportback makes a strong case for those who want the practicality and driving appeal of the A4 sedan with an added sense of fashion with its coupe-like roofline and an even sleeker design.
