Volkswagen reveals MK8 Golf teaser at the annual meeting in Germany
ABU DHABI: Volkswagen has unveiled the MK8 Golf’s teaser to the investors and employees in the form of an outline sketch. This has been done at the recent annual meeting that took place in Germany.
It is the Volkswagen's Wolfsburg plant where the Mk8 Golf’s production process will begin in June 2019. Looking at the image, the eighth-generation Golf is likely to get the manufacturer's signature headlight design. Also, the vehicle will be lighter, wider, and a bit longer than the ongoing one.
The Volkswagen MK8 Golf will be based on the MQB platform. This platform is now updated, as a result of which, the weight is 50 kilograms lighter than the current one. It will feature a 48-volt mild hybrid system under the hood. The hybrid system contains an electric turbocharger and is capable of churning out a maximum of 261 hp power.
Moreover, the vehicle also gets an EA288 Evo 2.0-litre TDI turbo-diesel engine, which is accompanied by a 12V mild hybrid system. The overall system pushes out a maximum power range of 136 hp to 204 hp.
Other changes in the engines of the VW Golf are - a new 1.5-litre unit will come in place of the 1.6-litre unit. Moreover, the new model will be available in petrol variants too. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI and the 1.0-litre three-cylinder (provided on the MK7 facelift) are likely to be given for this.
Some modifications will be made on the GTE plug-in hybrid model, as a result of which, the electric range will see a bulge. The current car is capable of providing a range of 50 kilometres. The vehicle will hit the market after the launch of the facelifted Passat, but definitely before the I.D. electric hatch.
