Upcoming Audi RS5 Avant spotted ahead of global debut next year

ABU DHABI: The 2025 Audi RS5 Avant is undergoing rigorous testing these days, with test mules spotted across Europe at various locations.

This is being done to ensure it exceeds the benchmark that has been set by the RS series. Enthusiasts can expect an upgrade in technology and performance, building on its predecessor's legacy. As anticipation builds, Audi wants to offer a wagon that combines thrilling driving dynamics with practicality.

The all-new RS5 Avant, Audi Sports will enter electrification. With this, the V6-powered RS4 will be succeeded by the first plug-in hybrid under a new name. Following the naming strategy of Audi, the electric variant will be named the RS4 e-tron, and it is anticipated to be launched by 2026.

The new RS5 also boasts a fresh design, including muscular bumpers, a large diamond-shaped grille, and substantial air intakes. It features multi-spoke sports wheels and flared wheel arches, and for improved aerodynamics, it comes with a vertical air vent. At the rear, two exhaust tips have been centred.

The upcoming RS5 Avant will add an electric motor to boost output beyond the current 450 hp and 600 Nm and it will retain its 2.9-litre V6. It will utilize the Volkswagen Group's MLB platform’s modified version so that plug-in hybrid versions can easily accommodate a larger 14.4 kWh battery. In recent Audi models, the MLB platform has been upgraded to support new electric architecture with 48V capability. 

The RS5 Avant will compete with the Mercedes-AMG C 63, which is now available with a powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain that produces 680 hp and 1,020 Nm.

Details about the launch of the new RS5 lineup in the UAE are yet to be confirmed.
